5 Podcasts for University Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

I recently started listening to podcasts and I’m in love! They’re really easy to access since most of them are free and it’s great for the gym, community or just listening to when you are getting ready in the morning. The best part is that they cover a wide variety of subjects (seriously, there is a podcast on everything!) so, you can definitely find something that you are interested in. Based on the podcasts I’ve listened to and enjoyed, I have selected the top 5 ones that I think are perfect for university students!

College Student Success Podcast

This podcast is perfect for university students especially at the start of a new semester. For students whose new years goals include improving your academics then the College students Success podcast is for you! Each podcast covers different topics ranging from mental health, starting a new semester, writing essays etc. so, there will be something for everyone.

Oprah’s Master Class

These podcasts are honestly amazing, but that’s only to be expected with anything associated with Oprah. These podcasts are full of inspirational content on purpose, happiness and dealing with difficult times. Although the content doesn’t relate directly to academia it’s always good to feed your soul and load up on inspiration.

Stuff Mom Never Told You

Mom’s are wonderful but as much as they would like to claim otherwise, they do not know everything. The Stuff Mom Never Told You Podcast is amazing because it covers world events and helps you to make sense of social phenomena as they happen. It offers discussions on the #Times up movement, Colorism and Welfare etc.  It’s really educational and a good way to broaden your knowledge on certain topics, especially because a lot of the content is discussed in college and university classes.

Learn To Adult

So you got to university and you you realize that you don’t know how to boil water or function as an adult.  Don’t feel alone because a lot of people over the age of 18 (who are technically adults) have no clue what they’re doing. The Learn to Adult podcasts can help you learn practical skills such as how to grocery shop properly, how to do your laundry, save money and learn how to cook –  all of the things that makes a functional adult.

Freakonomics

Every student falls in the same pitfall every semester. We all know that feeling where you know that you have to study, but you actively find ways to procrastinate. We’ve all been there and rather than tell you not to procrastinate (you already know you shouldn’t) I would suggest procrastinating by listening to Freakonomics. This way you can procrastinate while learning really cool and random facts about humanity, money management, and history.

Hi, I'm Deborah. I'm currently a third year Communications and Political science student at the University of Ottawa. I'd describe my hobbies as those of a middle aged housewife, I love to cook, read, crochet, marathon Netflix and pin all the diy crafts i'll most likely never make.
