Dorm Workouts Made Easy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

We all know the struggle of motivating yourself to work out with the crazy lives that us college students lead, especially when we have to walk all the way to the gym and then wait in line to use a treadmill.  Use these fun and easy methods to feel the burn without leaving the dorm.

1.  Use your roommate

There is nothing that makes working out easier than having a partner.  Make working out fun by doing it with your roommate or a friend on your floor.  From partner push-ups to high-fiving sit-ups, there are plenty of exercises you can incorporate to make working out a blast.

2.  Don’t have weights? No problem!

When faced with the choice to bring a pair of five pound weights or three more sweaters when packing for move-in day, it’s easy to guess which one we all went with.  However, no need to worry, all those ginormous bottles of shampoo or laundry detergent you bought at Costco are going to come in handy right about now.  Simply use two bottles about the same weight for curls, rows, or even an impromptu kettle bell!  You’ll thank yourself for choosing the sweaters when UConn’s classic winter weather rolls around.

3.  Use that desk chair for more than studying!

A great workout can be put in play simply by using your desk chair!  Pull it out from under your desk and do one-legged squats, sit-ups, or even deltoid dips.  You’ll be sure to get more out of it than you ever did studying orgo.

4.  Did someone say Netflix?

We all want an excuse to watch more Netflix, and now you do!  Many popular shows have workouts you can find on Pinterest that make you do certain exercises every time a certain action occurs or word is said.  It’s like a drinking game that actually burns calories, instead of packing them on.  If you can’t find one for your particular Netflix obsession, make one up based on others.  Trust me, you won’t want to watch another episode for a while.

5.  Skip the nap, try a workout!

Who knew your bed could be used to help you workout?  That’s right, now you can lie down in your bed and still work off those insomnia cookies from last night. Be sure to try out these exercises out and feel the burn you never knew your bed could provide!

Now that you’ve got these easy workout tips, there are no excuses that the gym is too far or it’s too cold outside to run- get out of that chair and find the best version of you!
