What’s better than a Starbucks PSL you ask? Homemade golden milk (the dairy free version is typically called Golden Mylk). Golden milk, while being a cure for chronic inflammation, is soothing and delicious. I also love drinking it before I go to bed because it’s great for sleep!

I came across this recipe and I’ve changed it based on my own preferences. However, this new trend, also commonly called the turmeric latte, has been part of ayurvedic medicine for centuries because of the various spices within it, like turmeric and cinnamon. Turmeric is traditionally used in more savory dishes, but add a little honey and the savory turns sweet! There are many nutritional benefits and it’s a great way to warm up during the cold winter.

Why is it so good for you nutritionally? Experts have said that turmeric regulates hormones and has anti-inflammatory properties while the cinnamon regulates blood sugar. The other ingredients, including coconut milk and coconut oil, provide good fats. I used local honey because it allows us to harmonize with our own environment and helps with allergies. The honey also cuts out any bitterness that the turmeric provides.

I use 1 cup of “So Delicious dairy free unsweetened vanilla coconut milk” (you can use regular milk if you want), 1 tsp of “Artisana organic coconut oil”, 1 tsp local honey, 1 tsp of “Daily Boost turmeric powder” (that also includes a small amount of black peppercorns), and ½ tsp of “Simply Organic cinnamon.”

To create the concoction, I start out by heating up the coconut milk (in a microwave) and then I just add all of the ingredients while it’s heating. Once warm it should all mix in nicely and is my own natural version of Nyquil.
