How to get the “Clean Girl” Makeup Look using only 7 products

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

I’m sure you’ve seen the clean-girl makeup look all over TikTok and Instagram. But if you haven’t, the “clean girl” aesthetic is in essence, minimalist makeup. The look is focused on that barely-there appearance, so the less product, the better. I love the look and wear it on almost a daily basis, so here are my go-to products on how I achieve the look.

PRE-MAKEUP: Skincare

Before sharing my go-to products, I wanted to note how important a good skincare routine is to achieving the look! Using quality ingredients and being consistent with your skincare routine will not only leave your skin fresh-faced and set up a good base, but it’ll also reduce the amount of makeup you’ll need! Concealing blemishes, acne scars, or dark under-eye circles is so much easier when you take care of your skin! (And don’t forget to wear SPF!)

1. Primer

Listen to me, do NOT skip primer! Primer creates a smoothing effect that enhances makeup coverage and helps your makeup stay on longer, both essential to the clean girl look. I use Rare Beauty’s Pore Diffusing Primer for my face and Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion for my eyes.

2. Face

Tinted Moisturizer

If you have an oily face like me, you probably don’t like wearing heavy liquids on your face. That’s where tinted moisturizer comes in! It’s a sheer, lightweight alternative to foundation that can cover up and hydrate the skin. My favorite one is from Laura Mercier since it’s oil-free and has SPF 20!

Concealer

When I feel like skipping tinted moisturizer, I’ll wear concealer instead. The NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer is perfect for covering up any redness or blemishes!

Blush

Liquid blushes are perfect for natural and high-quality blending- two things essential to the clean girl look! I promise you Rare Beauty’s liquid blush will not fail you.

3. Eyebrows

I never leave my house without eyebrows and I have Anastasia’s Brow Power Duo Kit to thank. I’ve been using their products for years and will continue to do so! I’m also a fan of Too Faced’s Brow Wig Gel for faster application and thickening my sparse brows!

4. Eyes

Mascara

Mascara is just one of those things that fits everyone differently. While I love Lancôme’s Définicils waterproof mascara, I think any mascara that is volumizing and long-lasting is great for this look.

5. Lips

Lip Oil

One of the most essential products to achieve this look is lip oil. They are the most hydrating things to put on our lips that are lightweight but still give the appearance of looking put-together and classy. My favorite is Dior’s Lip Glow Oil but I’m also obsessed with their lip balms!

Lip Balm

If your natural lip color is brown or nude-based, the NARS Afterglow Lip Balm (Shade: Laguna) is perfect for you.
