Everyday Skincare and Beauty Staples to Swear By

I have spent the last several years of my life tinkering with my makeup and skincare routine, trying to find the best products to deem my “staples”. As a person with very sensitive and acne-prone skin, sticking with a product is an arduous commitment. I am always wondering if there’s something better on the market that will be the holy grail of beautiful skin.

Thus far, I have only pinned down a few products I use daily to ensure that my skin is cared for and my makeup does not cause any acne flare-ups or allergic reactions. While these products are ones that I swear by, every person’s skin and preferences are different.

Clinique: Even Better All-Over Concealer Plus Eraser

While this concealer is a bit pricey compared to other major makeup brands, it has recently become the most frequented product in my makeup bag. The concealer comes in a small tube with an applicator and a sponge tip that can be used to spread the makeup. With a range of 42 shades to choose from, Clinique thoroughly provides inclusivity in this product line. According to Clinique, the concealer contains vitamin C and hyaluronic acid to help brighten and energize skin. Also, it is free of parabens and phthalates and has no fragrance.

As a person who also suffers from PCOS, this concealer’s ability to cover my acne scarring and partial five o’clock shadow without looking cakey is impressive. The coverage lasts me from my 10 a.m. classes through my closing shift at work without needing to re-apply. I frequently clean the excess product from under the cap, so that it doesn’t spread onto my makeup bag. Aside from the minimal messiness, this product has done wonders in concealing my insecurities.

Hero Cosmetics: Mighty Patch (Micropoint for Blemishes)

While I am a sucker for all of the Hero Cosmetic pimple patches, the micro point patches are a favorite for those stubborn pimples who never want to become whiteheads. These hydrocolloid patches contain various acne-fighting ingredients and tiny micro-point needles that help banish early-stage pimples and zits. As I suffer from hormonal acne, these patches are great to put on a pimple before it becomes the equivalent of a flashing neon sign on my face.

Glossier: Balm Dot Com

Glossier’s Balm Dot Com is absolutely worth the hype. Not only does the product come in various subtle scents and flavors, but it has also been the only product that keeps my lips hydrated in the changing Austin weather. According to Glossier, the product contains castor seed oil, beeswax, lanolin, cupuacu fruit extract, and rice bran & rosemary leaf extracts antioxidants. While the product is typically used as a lip balm, I often use it on my knuckles or cuticles when the weather is arid and cold. My favorite flavors are the Birthday Balm Dot Com and the new limited edition Swiss Miss Balm™ Dot Com.

Glossier: Boy Brow

Another one of my everyday Glossier staples is their Boy Brow, a “brushable, creamy wax that visibly thickens, shapes, and grooms brows into place.” (Glossier). While the Boy Brow comes in several shades to match your eyebrow color, I prefer the clear shade. It allows for a more natural look when filling in my brows is not a priority. This product also keeps my brows in place and looking sleek throughout the day, even with sweat, wind, and rain involved.

Benefit Cosmetics: Hoola Bronzer

I never thought bronzer would become a part of my everyday makeup routine. However, after discovering the versatility of the Hoola Bronzer, I realized how it could subtly change my look without requiring much effort. While bronzer is traditionally applied on the cheeks, jawline, and forehead, I also use the Hoola Bronzer as an eyeshadow and nose contour. I am very fair-skinned, and this bronzer is not too dark for my skin tone. However, Benefit offers darker and lighter shades for different complexions.
