Best Buddies is an organization that promotes one on one friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. This club allows you to make friends, empower other individuals, give back to your community, and also has super fun activities like a Halloween Carnival and “Turkey Two Step” for Thanksgiving!

If you are interested in feminism: The Women’s Resource Agency
The Women’s Resource Agency, or WRA, seeks to foster an educated, empowered, connected community of women at the University of Texas. They hold weekly meetings (usually with free food) at PAR 214 every Wednesday at 6:30-7:30. In these meetings, they discuss hot topics in modern feminism such as the decriminalization of sex work, gendered curse words, and even misogyny in music!

The Freshmen Leadership Organization is a place where freshmen are given the opportunity to build communication and leadership skills while participating in both social and community service projects with their peers and friends. They hold weekly meetings, occasionally have really amazing guest speakers, and have an incredible Mentor/Mentee program to help freshmen get acclimated here at UT!

If you’re interested in medicine: Women in Medicine
Women in Medicine (WIM) supports the professional interests of female UT students pursuing careers in health-related fields. This organization brings together future doctors, physician’s assistants, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, veterinarians, physical therapists, and researchers. WIM has socials, volunteering, trips to medical schools, charity events, and opportunities to converse with health professionals and other WIM members with the similar interests.

If you want to meet new people: Spirit Groups/Sororities
Joining any sorority of spirit group that suits you provides you with a chance to meet likeminded individuals, foster your interests, get out into your community and help others, and make lasting friendships. There are plenty of different societies to meet any interests you may have whether you be pre-med, pre-law, a business major, or even undecided! If you want to get outside your comfort zone and meet others, sororities are the place to start.

The Campus Environmental Center is an organization that has many different projects running on campus including their microfarm (a student run sustainable farming operation), Trash to Treasure (a used goods reuse and recycling center), and they oversee UT’s first community garden! Advocates for Awareness at the is an organization that allows students and faculty to speak about their passions in an open forum. Just think of it as a local ‘TED Talks’ right here on campus! This club is great for people seeking leadership positions or people who want to start discussions about change in their community.

If you just need to relax: Bliss Meditation Club
Bliss Meditation Club allows students to continue practicing meditation or just begin meditating to “connect with their bliss within”. Meditation is a great way to relieve stress and clear your mind each week when school/boys/family/other issues are stressing you out! It’s a great habit to form especially in college.
Note: If you’ve never meditated before—don’t worry! Beginners are definitely welcome.
