5 Ways to Spread The Love This Valentine’s Day

By Kara Markert

It’s almost that time of year again!

You know, the day that most couples tend to overly-express their everyday love for their significant other. Or the day that most single people tend to dread.

The seasonal aisles have been covered with sugar and have been glowing in shades of red and pink since the moment Christmas was over. Heart-shaped candies, cards, balloons, and giant teddy bears have taken over the holiday sections of stores, and the jewelry advertisements and love-themed products have been pushed onto the shelves from Target to Lush. Kylie Jenner is even releasing limited edition lip kits to get you into the spirit of the holiday.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and whether you’re getting cozied up with a S.O., going out to dinner with your best friends, or having a night in with yourself, there are plenty of ways to spread the love this year! And the best part is, you don’t even have to be in a relationship.

Here are five ways you could spend your Valentine’s Day:

  1. Girls’ night! Get a group of your besties together and cook dinner, pop in a movie or start a new series on Netflix, and enjoy some chocolate, wine, or popcorn together. Go out and get facials or a massage, or have a stress-relieving dance party. The options are endless, but there’s no better way to celebrate love than to be surrounded by the girls who love you most.

2. Volunteer. Take a group of friends with you (or go solo)! Either way, you can spread the love within your community and spend time with children (or puppies) who need a little extra loving.

3. Spend time with your family. It’s hard when you’re in college to go see your family or keep in touch as often as you used to, but make sure to send some love their way on Valentine’s Day. Even if it’s just a quick text reminding them of how much you love and appreciate them.

4. Get crafty. Invite classmates, friends, or people from your dorm to enjoy easy table crafts, like making bracelets, decorating cards or cookies, or even coloring. An easy way to destress and spend time with others. So bring out the markers!

5. Treat yo’self. The most overused excuse for splurging on something when you know your bank account is wheezing, and quite possibly the best thing ever. There’s no better way to spend Valentine’s Day than to love yourself. Sleep in, have a nice dinner, Netflix a little longer than you should, do something that makes you happy! After all, loving yourself is the ultimate way to spread the love.
