A Letter to the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

Dear Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University,

Imagine you are softly sleeping. It’s a dark Friday morning, and the world is peaceful and quiet. All you know is your cozy bed and soft blankets. You don’t have class until 10 am. All is well with the world.

Then you wake up. You don’t know why you are awake, and you wish to go back to sleep, but you can’t. It’s not like you need to go to the bathroom, or your blanket fell off the bed. You decide to check the time.

It’s 6 am, and you say an exploitive under your breath to not wake your roommate (although she’s probably awake too). You listen for a few seconds and there it is, the Corps of Cadets screaming outside your dorm.

I’m not one to complain about what people choose to do with their time, but every single Friday I have been woken up at 6 am because of the absurdly loud Cadets that have begun their training.

I have so many questions for you. Why must you be outside my dorm? Why must it be 6 am? Why is it every Friday? Would you leave if I open my window and screamed at you all?

I don’t want to come off as cranky or rude, I truly have nothing against the Corps of Cadets. I quite enjoy watching the marching band perform and seeing them at traditions such as Silver Taps and Bonfire Memorial. I just wish that you would let me sleep on Friday mornings.

Thank you and say hi to Reveille for me,

Kate
