Why are Your Workouts Not Giving You Results?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

We’ve all been there before — going to the gym every day and not seeing results develop overtime. I completely understand that it can be frustrating to put all that time and effort for nothing. So why is this happening? Here are a few reasons that your fitness routine might be failing you:

1. You’re not getting enough sleep

Yes. This changes completely. If you want to see results, forget about doing papers until 3 a.m. and waking up at 8 a.m. Lack of sleep can prevent you from focusing and it can be harder to do your best performance in your workout. Also, you’re body needs to rest and fully recovery until your next workout.

2. You’re not eating well

You can run every day, hit the gym five days a week, and go to spinning class every week, but none of it matters if you are eating the wrong foods for your body. Proteins, such as yogurt, lean meats, and nuts are essential for your body after your workout. It helps build the muscles that you just worked out. Also, complex carbs, such as banana, are great to eat after your run or perform cardio exercise.

You don’t need to follow a strict diet and eat super healthy 100% of the time, but just try to be more conscious of what you’re fueling your body with. A good way to start is to put goals in your diet, for example, eating sweets and treats only during the weekends. This will help you keep track of what you’re eating, and you will definitely see the difference in a few weeks.

3. You are doing the same thing everyday

After a while, your body acclimates to the stresses of routinely working out which results in tremendous decreases of the benefits that you can earn from it. Try to incorporate different exercises throughout the week, such as biking, cardio classes with your friends, or alternating cardio and strength training.
