As much as I love being a woman, there is no sugarcoating the fact that periods are the worst part of womanhood. So, as I am lying in bed, pained from the mind-numbing period cramps, I think the best blog post topic this week would be this: some simple tips and routines that help make my periods a little less miserable.

Electric heating pads:

I cannot stress enough how life-saving this little gadget has been during my periods. Using an electric heating pad instead of a traditional hot water bag is far more convenient since it cuts on the time that you have to keep refilling the hot water, and being careful about not spilling it. It is fuss-free, can be used for extended periods of time and the heat level can be adjusted.

Period yoga:

Period cramps and body aches can make you feel drowsy and lethargic while you bleed. I pretty much want to lie in bed and eat my weight in chocolate cake, but over the years I have found that a light yoga or stretching routine (designed specifically for periods) helps me release all the tension in my back and makes me a little less moody and tired. You can find a ton of guided ‘period yoga’ videos on YouTube!

Hot fluids:

Having hot teas and soups during your period is comforting and recommended by many doctors. This description might be a little weird, but I absolutely love the sensation of hot fluids moving through your intestines and soothing your inflamed insides. My personal favorites are chamomile teas and chicken soup…extra points if it’s paired with a Netflix show and a piece of gooey brownie!

Period memes:

This is the most unusual of all the tips, but I find it really helps me. I absolutely love scrolling through some period memes while I am resting in bed on my periods. To commiserate with your sisters who are going through the same pain and PMS, makes you feel like you are not the only one suffering during periods. Even though biology is rigged against our favor, we can at least alleviate some of the pain with some memes!

If you haven’t heard about any of these tips before, I really hope you give one if not all of them a try!
