At Home Workout Apps to Try!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

During quarantine, I have been forced to go outside of my comfort zone.  I really enjoyed working out in the gym and following my normal lifting schedule. When the gyms in New York State closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, my team and myself were challenged to find new ways to stay active. Here are some of my favorite apps that I recommend trying out!

Nike Training App

The Nike Training app is one of the best, in my opinion.  They are super easy to follow and allow you to select what type of workout you would like.  If you want to do only arms, or a HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) workout, or a full-body recovery, you can search through the categories to find the workout that best appeals to you.  You can also sort through the videos by time and by level. There are beginner, intermediate, and expert level workouts for you to choose from. One of the best qualities of this app is that you can sort by equipment, so if you are working out at home and don’t have any gym equipment, you can select that as a filter!  You can also connect the app to your apple watch, and it will buzz at the beginning and end of each exercise, which makes it easier to follow at the correct pace. I highly recommend this app to any student without access to fitness centers for the time being.

7M Workout

The 7M Workout app is another good one to incorporate into your fitness routine. This app consists of various short workouts! I use this app when I am really dreading a workout and lack motivation because the workouts are around 7-10 minutes in length. It is much easier sometimes to rationalize being able to workout for 7 minutes than for 2 hours. When using this app, I have found that time goes by very quickly, and it’s also great for when you don’t have a long time to do a workout but want to get your blood flowing!

Caravan

Caravan is a new workout app that I have been using. St. Lawrence University has actually provided students with a full-access membership to the app throughout the school year. This app focuses primarily on wellness and has many different programs in aiding this process.  If you need to sleep better and need to unwind from a long school day, you can follow the 10 Day Sleep transformation.  You can also follow videos on meditation, videos helping to release tension, yoga sessions, and even food combination recipes. This app is endless and can offer a lot to a student going through a stressful semester.

Abs & Core Workouts- Sworkit

My ab and core exercises often get very redundant. In trying to find some new exercises that target the core and abs, I have found this app!  I really recommend it as it is super easy to navigate and probably one of the simpler workout apps I have used. These are also relatively short workouts that can be used in combination with each other.
