This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. Law U chapter.

As it gets colder and flu season approaches, it is a good idea to eat food that will give you a strong immune system. Here are some options for food that will help boost your immune system during the winter months.

1. Yogurt: Yogurt is a probiotic that will help make your immune system stronger. It can also be paired with other healthy foods that will prevent you from getting sick (think chia seeds, berries, etc.).

2. Fruit: Eating fruit that contains a high amount of Vitamin C is beneficial because it improves your immune system’s overall strength. Some examples of foods with high Vitamin C are oranges, grapefruit, clementines, strawberries, and kiwi. You can also cut up some of these fruits and put them in your water for a great tasting drink throughout the day!

3. Garlic: Believe it or not, garlic can help boost your immune system so that you don’t get sick during the winter. Garlic has sulfur compounds, which can help prevent you from catching the flu.

4. Nuts: Nuts contain a lot of zinc, copper, and vitamin E, which also boost your immune system. Some options are almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds.

5. Broccoli: Broccoli contains vitamins A, C, and E which can help make your immune system stronger. It also contains other fiber and antioxidants, meaning that it is one of the healthiest vegetables that you can eat.
