College, without a doubt, is one of the most stressful times for young adults. Papers, financial burdens, and  internships all can be overwhelming. If you don’t have any balance, it can get tough. But not to worry, I will give you some self-care tips that will surely help you in the long run:

1. Schedules are your best friend

After syllabus week, the semester goes fast, and the material gets hard. It can be hard to keep track of everything, whether it’s school work or social events. So the best self-care tip you can have is to keep your schedules organized. As soon as new homework is assigned, write it down in a calendar on your phone or laptop and put an alert to remind you when it’s due. Having a schedule helps you keep track of everything, and helps you plan social events around your deadlines because it’s important to have fun too!

2. Dedicate a day

College has a way of blending days altogether, so it is easy to lose track of time. That’s why it is best to dedicate a day to yourself. Taking one day off from work, studying, or even friends can make a huge difference. So don’t shy away from putting your phone on DND and taking an adventure to a local museum or restaurant. Take a day off, you deserve it.

3. Clean up

With college schedules array, it’s so easy to throw dirty clothes in that designated chair in your room. Dishes pile, and so do dirty clothes, so to save yourself the hassle of stressing out for a clean pair of jeans 10 minutes before class, it’s best to clean up as you go. Every time you eat, wash the dishes, or if you leave your room a mess, clean up when you get home or immediately following the next day.

4. Maintain a balanced diet

With the overwhelming choices of eateries on campus, it’s a perfect atmosphere for a “smorgasbord” every day of the week. The campus is trying to ensure that students have healthier options on campus, but the truth is no one is going to pass up a slice of pizza for a salad. But it would be best if you found a balance in your diet because having a clear head and a well-balanced diet can help your focus in class and make you feel less sluggish.

5. It’s okay to ask for help

Last but certainly not least, the best self-care tip is to know when to say you need help. College is a wonderful experience, but it is also challenging. Balance can be hard to find at first, and you can get overwhelmed. So if this happens, don’t be afraid to ask a college advisor, professor, parents, or even friends for help. It can make a difference in your mental health and your overall college journey!
