I recently got into running, and to be honest, it’s always difficult to keep my mind entertained. I get bored easily. Especially if I’m running for one to two hours at a time. The only thing to do is listen to music. Here is a list of what I listen to when I run to keep myself from turning around out of boredom.
The Great Divide: The Last of The Bugs by Noah Kahan
This album is one I’ve already talked about, but I still haven’t stopped listening to it. This album is lengthy and comes in at just over an hour and a half. This is perfect for a long run. It takes up time, and I find myself singing along the whole time. I sometimes struggle to go slow enough on my longer runs and save energy for the end. This album helps with that. It is upbeat, but doesn’t push me to run too fast and exhaust myself quickly. A downside to this album is that it isn’t exactly “hype.” If you aren’t already a Noah Kahan fan, like I am, you might find this album too boring. But, it’s worth a try. My favorites from the album to run to are “Deny Deny Deny,” “Staying Still,” and “Paid Time Off.”
Slayyyter
My favorite hype up music. “BEAT UP CHANEL$” is my favorite song to run to by her. I also love “I’M ACTUALLY KINDA FAMOUS,” “crank 2,” and “brand new chanel$” for a calmer vibe. I saw Slayyyter live at Lollapalooza this summer and it was life changing. She has a very specific sound that I can’t even try to describe. It’s aggressive and upbeat and so fun to run to. Again, this may not be your preferred music, but you can’t argue that it isn’t motivating to have Slayyyter screaming at you to run faster.
Ethel Cain
Big switch-up, I know. I don’t have a specific genre for music, so it really is all over the place. Some Ethel Cain songs can get up to eight minutes, so they make a long run go by faster. Her songs vary from chill vibes for slower runs to an alternative rock style. I love her music for any time of day, but for running specifically, I love “Thoroughfare,” “Sun Bleached Flies,” “Gibson Girl,” and “A House In Nebraska.”
EDM
House music and dance-pop are so fun to run to! I don’t know the specific differences between genres, but I will give some suggestions that make me run so much faster. A given is John Summit. “All The Time” is my favorite song by him to run to. Another artist I love is INJI. She makes great dance-pop music, and it’s so upbeat. They all have a great tempo for working out to. My favorites are “ALL I WANNA DO” and “I WANNA FEEL IT ALL.”
