It’s that time of the year again.
The summer sun is fainting away while the chill breeze is coming among us. I don’t know if it is just me, but I am already thinking about my summer body.
I tell myself every year, “Octavia you are going to go to the gym after class and eat healthy!” But the result is always the same. I go back to my apartment and grab the nearest snack at arm’s reach.
So far, I have been going to the gym three times a week and I have been eating healthy. Maybe healthy is a strong word to use, maybe not so healthy, but not too bad is a better fit.
I think this is the year that I will actually stay committed because there are a couple of factors that are very persuasive. I am going to share some incentives and ideas that had helped me stay consistent.
- Try to find a friend that has the same workout goal as you.
Going to the gym with a friend is very motivating and you guys can even push each other which can be very encouraging. Also, perhaps get a trainer on campus. There’s a lot of fit dudes and gals on campus and if you ask they would probably give up their spare time to help you.
- Try to eat as healthy as possible.
You do not have to go full-blown vegetarian but cutting out a lot of the fast food can really help. Living in an apartment with a kitchen helps because there are quick healthy meals that are easy to prepare and will kickstart your healthy eating habits. I know a lot of freshmen do not have access to a kitchen and are forced to go to the Commons.
It can be very tempting to eat cheeseburgers and fries every day. I can relate because that was all I ate my first semester of my freshmen year. Did you know that in between the pasta and the burger section, they actually have semi-healthy meals that you would expect at a family dinner, but without the seasoning and the actual taste. It is not the best, but it will bring you a step closer to achieving your goal.
Lastly, always remember that you are perfect the way you are. Do not put yourself through this to please someone else, but for you.
