The dress that she is wearing looks stunning – off the charts – and her smile is beautiful. The suit that he is wearing is perfect for the Met Gala… but here is the question: beneath those beautiful pieces and silky material, are those people happy and feeling fulfilled with themselves? There is a high chance that this statement is untrue because what we see and portray on social media is poles apart from the secrets unveiled off the camera.

The more we look at Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat, we begin to feel as though our life isn’t perfect; but we need the perfect relationship, fit body, flawless skin, and pearly white teeth. We fail to recognize that what we truly need is the space to feel our very best and do our very best, and the first to step to achieving that positive growth mindset is to take a break from Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.

The challenging part is staying away from social media because looking at it every morning and every night has become a routine. Below, you will find my guide on how to start breathing and living without having to worry about your intrusive thoughts and outside opinions:

1. Put on an outfit that makes you feel good. You should dress to stand out and feel comfortable in your skin.

2. Exercise. With a healthy mind comes a healthy body. You have the gift of movement. Go out for a walk, run a mile or two, and once that sweaty workout is complete, you will accomplish many more tasks throughout the day with boosted energy and fitness.

3. Read a book. Knowledge comes in many forms, but what’s great about a book is that you can’t predict what happens next in the story: that curiosity and excitement are irreplaceable.

4. Learn a new recipe. Food is a way to the heart and soul, and who doesn’t love a coffee after a long day and a well-deserved TREAT to end the night?

5. Talk to your friends and family. It is important to stay connected to those that you are close to, and in addition to that, you can attend gatherings and events with friends and family, and surround yourself with people that you are fond of and feel expressive around.

Remember to fill your cup first.
