Creative Corner: You Need a Real Problem

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

“You need a real problem.”

I wish I had a real problem.

Don’t you get it?

Do you not understand how hard it is

to battle such twisted ideas,

to feel the pain of a loved one’s sudden death

from a mere thought?

Thoughts can be toxic.

They can drive you to insanity,

or to the edge of a bridge.

Do you not see that?

Do you not realize how powerful

a single moment of doubt can be?

Perhaps you can brush it off like a dusty book,

but I’m forced to read every word on those pages,

cycling them over and over in my mind until I find relief—

reassurance that

maybe I’m not so alone,

I’m not the only one trapped inside a dizzy mind

that just wants peace.

I wish, more than anything, to have something REAL to deal with.

Something that I can speak of and learn from,

not obsess over like a maniac waiting for daylight.

Yes, I do need a real problem.

It’s all I need.

I am a Writing Arts major at Rowan University. Poetry is my best friend. One day, I hope to be a successful writer for a popular magazine in NYC. My dream is to travel to Paris, London, and Rome to explore and write about my experiences there.
