The Key to a Happy Morning: 5 Breakfasts You Must Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

For me, mornings are a sacred time in my day. I wake up, make myself a nourishing meal, and put on a TV show or read a book while eating my freshly made breakfast. I know in college it is almost impossible – and dare I say, a superhuman deed – to start off the day in such a peaceful manner, but you should definitely start eating something in the morning. Eating breakfast improves your metabolism, makes you more alert in class and gives you the energy to have an amazing day. Here are some of my favorite nutrient-dense, delicious and beyond-easy breakfast ideas that you will adore.

1. Yogurt bowl: This meal is truly the love of my life. I have it almost every morning not only because of its delicious taste, but because it is so nutritious! Start with some Greek yogurt, granola, bananas, berries, and mango, and you have got a balanced meal in 5 minutes or less.

2. Smoothie bowl: Instagram-worthy and healthy? This is a breakfast idea you won’t want to miss. The key is using frozen fruit and just a splash of milk. I personally blend frozen bananas, frozen berries, frozen mango, a tiny bit of soy milk and some almond butter. This combination is amazing, and you can add any toppings you want! My favorites? Any kind of nut butter and granola!

3. Protein waffles: This breakfast is perfect for when you truly don’t have time for anything, but you need energy-stat! Buy some frozen protein waffles at your local grocery store, pop them in the toaster and top them off with fresh fruit, maple syrup and peanut or almond butter. I won’t lie: protein waffles are so delicious, I sometimes have them for lunch!

4. Oatmeal: As the days get colder, all I want to eat is something cozy, heartwarming and super nutritious. Oatmeal ticks off all of these boxes and leaves me satisfied and energized. I make it with milk, protein powder and top it with lots of banana nut butter (can you tell I love nut butter at this point?).

5. Avocado toast: I know I’m a sweet tooth, but here’s one for all you savory gals. Two slices of toast with a smashed avocado and some eggs on the side make for a nourishing and balanced meal, hitting all of your macronutrients and making you feel amazing.

Having no time or no ideas is no excuse for missing breakfast. Remember your health should always be your top priority! Nourish your body with these healthy meals and it will thank you. Me? I will be here, already planning tomorrow’s breakfast.
