What Your Healthy New Year’s Resolution Should Be Based On Your Zodiac Sign

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

As 2021 draws to a close, we are entering a time of new beginnings. 2022 brings the opportunity of a fresh start and a better you!

Unfortunately, this is also the time of year that the practice of devising our New Year’s Resolutions falls upon us. Every year millions of Americans decide to lose weight, better manage their finances and exercise more. Every year, these promises are made, and 80% of them are broken before the next one can be imagined. So instead of the traditional, boring New Year’s Resolutions, we have created our own ideas for promises to make to yourself this year: all are affordable, sustainable and achievable.

But how can one person choose from so many? We got you covered! Each of these resolutions is matched to your zodiac sign. Considering your sign’s key personality traits, we matched you with the most beneficial goal that you are most likely to keep. Scroll down to find yours!

Aries (March 21 – April 19): Get at least eight hours of sleep every night

Aries are impulsive and passionate. They are hard-working and goal-oriented, always determined to strive for what they want. Considering all this passion and hard work, it is important for them to get a full night’s sleep.

Sleep is an essential behavior that provides us with many benefits to our health. From a stronger immune system to improved memory, getting a full eight hours of sleep will ensure that you can perform to the best of your ability, be it in the classroom, the boardroom or even on the track. Make sure to catch some z’s this 2022!

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Try meditating at least once a week

Dependable and resilient Tauruses will benefit greatly from meditation. A time to relax and reflect will add calm to their busy lifestyles.

Meditation provides a whole host of mental and physical benefits. These include better stress management, increased self-awareness, reduced negative emotions and even higher pain tolerance. For beginners, we recommend using apps, such as Headspace and Calm, as they provide wonderful guided sessions and allow users to stick to a fixed schedule.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Try a new form of exercise

The trustworthy and open-minded Gemini should expand their horizons this year by trying a new type of exercise. There’s a ton to choose from!

Join an intermural sport. Sign up for a yoga or HIIT class at the campus gym. Learn pilates from YouTube. Try new things, have fun and get fit all at the same time!

cancer (June 21 – July 22): Do a social media detox

A break from scrolling is vital for caring and sensitive Cancers. Decreased anxiety, more free time, better sleep and increased personal growth are all linked to fewer hours on Facebook, Instagram and other social media apps.

A social media detox can vary in intensity. Some may choose to delete all social media from their phone for a month while others may simply declutter their following list by disassociating themselves with accounts and hashtags that negatively impact their happiness and self-worth. Either way, getting a break from negative content on your feeds will have a positive impact on your mental wellbeing.

Leo (July 23 – August 22): Compliment yourself every morning

It’s time to bust the myth that body positivity is only beneficial to those who are insecure about their appearance. Ambitious and confident Leos can also greatly benefit from practicing body positivity and self-love.

Every morning, choose a feature or trait of yours that you are proud of. Maybe you love the way your hair curls. Maybe the color of your shirt looks great with your complexion. Maybe you had the strength to get out of bed this morning. However detailed or vague, big or small, some kind words of affirmation will give you the confidence to take on the day.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22): Start a wellness journal

Virgos are practical and responsible, so staying organized is key to keeping their lives on track. As far as health goes, a wellness journal is a great way to track your habits.

You can create your own wellness journal from a simple notebook or buy a pre-printed one. For the latter, we recommend brands like Papier and Pellatini. For the former, some ideas to get you started include a food diary, a water intake tracker, daily goals and affirmations, dream journaling or a workout schedule.

Libra (September 23 – October 22): Eat fewer Heavily processed foods

The charming and reliable Libra should make an attempt to steer clear of harmful additives this year. Heavily processed foods can contain unhealthy quantities of added fats, sugars and sodium. While this may improve the taste, in the long run, these sneaky additives can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Of course, this does not mean you should eliminate ultra-processed foods entirely (especially because cake tastes so good). However, making a few healthy swaps and adding more minimally processed foods like fresh vegetables, whole grains and nuts can lead to a significant improvement in your health and wellbeing.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables every day

Eating a few more fruits and veggies every day will benefit loyal and protective Scorpios this year. These plants have a range of essential vitamins and minerals, along with dietary fiber for improved digestion.

The World Health Organization recommends five portions of fruits and vegetables a day, leading to the popular 5-A-Day campaigns launched by the health cabinets and services of many nations.

If you struggle consuming raw fruits and veggies, there are many ways to incorporate them into your diet while still enjoying the taste. Serve them with a dip, blend them into soups and smoothies, or pair them with foods you already enjoy.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Spend more time outdoors

For the adventurous and optimistic Sagittarius, what New Year’s resolution could be better than spending time in the great outdoors? Elevate your vitamin D levels, get some exercise and inhale some fresh air in 2022.

Spending time outdoors can range from hiking in a national park to sitting in your garden doing homework. For inspiration, here is a list of great state parks to explore.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Try a probiotic

Even the ambitious and resourceful Capricorn should care about their gut health. If you experience digestion issues or simply want to improve your digestive health, a probiotic can be a great new addition to your diet this year.

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that improve your digestive system. They are often found in foods like yogurt, but adding a probiotic supplement to your diet can greatly improve your overall health.

These supplements come in many forms. There are powders, capsules and even gummies! Find your favorite at The Vitamin Shoppe.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Drink at least eight glasses of water every day

Represented by the water-bearer, the friendly and intelligent Aquarius should focus on their water intake this upcoming year.

Health experts recommend eight-ounce glasses, or half a gallon, of water a day. With a multitude of benefits, expect glowing skin, healthy organs and a stronger immune system this new year.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Find a creative outlet

Intuitive and artistic Pisces can deal with their anxiety and stress, gain a sense of purpose and potentially even monetize a hobby by finding a creative outlet this year!

Despite preconceptions, creative outlets are not limited to just drawing and painting. Blogging, writing, graphic design, scrapbooking, photography, video production and creating music are all ways to express your creativity.
