I Sweat Glitter: How to Work Out In Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

I don’t know about any of you, but my mentality while working out is that the more I sweat, the harder I work. I am damn proud of being able to leave the gym drenched in sweat because it means I totally kicked ass at the gym. Strangely enough, when hitting the mats to do the ever-daunting tasks of abs, arms, and legs (spring break is in a month but I mean who’s counting), I receive compliments on my appearance… aka my workout clothes. I always say that you should dress to impress, even when knowing that my hair will be matted to my forehead by sweat less than halfway through my workout. However, I don’t want to give off the impression that you have to dress up to go to the gym. By all means, if black workout shorts and a Pitt t-shirt is your thing, you do you. If you’re looking to add a little flair to your workout apparel, then this article was written just for you!

Tops:

One of my favorite and cheapest places to find workout apparel is at *drum roll please* Forever 21. From printed pants to colorful tanks, there is never disappointment to be found in your workout outfit or your wallet. This two-in-one tank top is cool and edgy while giving you the support you need to run out that last mile on the treadmill.

Sports Bras:

Though they may not be openly visible while hitting the gym, just knowing that what you are sporting under your clothes is styling will aid you as you power through those 30-second planks. Lululemon is known for their detailed workout apparel, especially when it comes to their sports bras. This specific one has a strappy back that is sure to help you find your inner Zen in your next hot yoga class.

Pants:

Personally, I like to venture more outside the box with my workout pants compared to what I wear on top. Stores such as Lululemon and Athleta (my personal favorite) carry endless prints, colors, materials, and lengths of pants. It’s basically any avid-workout girl’s dream. Since I choose to go for brighter prints and patterns in this department, this is where I usually get the most compliments. I often pair Athleta pants, such as these, with a breathable black tank and my running sneakers. With this go-to outfit, it seems that I can run forever (hypothetically speaking, of course).

Socks:

Yes, socks are important to your workout outfit. Not only for looks, but in all honesty, the choice you make pertaining to socks can make or break a workout. Nike is always a go-to brand, so these cushioned running socks are sure to be a necessity next time you go to the gym.

Sneakers:

Much like socks, the sneakers you opt for make all the difference in your performance. I was once a Nike lover; however, I have fallen in love with New Balance. Not only do their sneakers come in all different comfort levels, but the color combinations are sure to make you stand out in the gym.

Even if you implement just one of these new clothing types into your workout outfit, you’re sure to not only better your own mindset, but could unknowingly motivate yourself more!
