This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

With the rising popularity of K-Pop, I decided it was a good time to shine a light on other Asian musicians who are killing the game. My Malaysian friend and I came up with this list of different artists that we hope you like as much as we do!

  • Yuna:
    • She is singer-songwriter and businesswoman from Malaysia that started her career through Myspace. Her most known singer is “Crush” where she collaborated with Usher.
  • Mayday (Wu Yue Tian):
    • This band from Taiwan was formed in 1997 – the year I was born. CNN calls them “The Chinese Beatles” as they are one of the most influential Taiwanese bands.
  • JJ Lim:
    • Singer and actor from Singapore. He sings in Mandarin, English, Cantonese and Hokkien.
  • Hoshino Gen:
    • Singer-songwriter and actor from Japan. His first solo album came out in 2010 and it was named Baka no Uta.
  • Shahzoda:
    • She is an Uzbek singer and actress. She has recorded songs in Uzbek, Russian, Persian, Kazakh, Tajik and English. Before she became a solo artist, she was in a pop band called “Jonim.”
  • Sid Sriram:
    • He is an Indian-American music producers and singer. His style is mostly R&B. In his album called “Insomniac Season” he worked along with multiple Grammy Award winner, DJ Khalid!
