school can feel overwhelming

Being in college can feel overwhelming.

Unlike a 9-to-5 job or a summer position, college life often feels like you’re just floating through — floating through 8 a.m. lectures, club meetings, leadership roles, time with friends, workouts, homesickness, and everything in between.

The idea of “balance” is one every student chases, but maybe the goal isn’t to perfect it. Maybe it’s to find comfort in the chaos.

Think back to weekends at home during breaks — eating breakfast with your family, spending time with your pets, or finally picking up that book you’ve been meaning to read.

Bring moments like those back into your campus life. College moves fast, and if you don’t take a second to slow down, you’ll miss the little things that keep you grounded.

Wake up 15 minutes earlier. Do something that fills your cup — whether it’s grabbing a latte from your favorite coffee shop, making coffee at home, journaling, reading, or heading to the gym.

Find what fills your cup and make it an absolute priority and non-negotiable.

Don’t let your time in college be blurred by assignments, meetings, and job applications.

Those things absolutely matter, but so do you!

How to fill your cup

Every student has different methods to filling their own cup, but here is a list of a few things you should try if you have not already:

1. Journaling: Finding time for yourself where you can jot down some of the things going on in your life.

      2. Coffee ritual: As mentioned previously, try to find time to enjoy a fun drink or downtime. Go try a new coffee shop or make some at home.

      3. Call home: Take time to talk to hometown friends or family.

      4. Clean: Cleaning your space or room gives you some time to yourself without a screen in your face, so it can be satisfying and it can be a mental break.

      5. Take a walk: Taking a walk can be very clarifying for your mind, and it can be a moment to enjoy the small details of nature.

      Overall

      To end, you should enjoy the small things. Even if it’s hanging out with your roommates or going to try a new place in the area, you deserve some time to do things that make you happy in the midst of the stress that comes with being a college student!
