Lush’s Four Most Popular Masks: Tried and Tested

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

As a popular body care and skincare brand, Lush offers a variety of facial masks for different complexion concerns. But, with so many options at your disposal, which masks are best for your skin and worth the potential buy? To help you find out which is the best for you, here’s a review of four of Lush’s most well-known facial masks.

1. Oatifix

Lush advertises that this mask is best for moisturizing dry skin, as well as reducing redness. When first opening Lush’s Oatifix mask, the scent is immediately welcoming and warm. Made with bananas, vanilla, and oats, it almost smells good enough to eat!

As someone who has sensitive skin and suffers from occasional breakouts, this mask worked to reduce redness and soothe my skin. It also gently exfoliated with ground almonds and buffed away any dead skin. However, this product is not ideal for those with oily skin, as it might make your skin feel greasy after rinsing it off. I also did not notice a huge improvement in my breakouts, but the mask definitely moisturized my skin and prevented it from over drying.

Overall, I would buy this mask again as it made my skin feel soft, moisturized, and reduced redness without over-drying my skin or irritating it. Also, it smells amazing, which is always a plus. I recommend this mask to those who are looking to keep their skin moisturized and hydrated.

2. Mask of Magnaminty

One of Lush’s most well known masks is Mask of Magnaminty. Lush advertises this mask as the best way to exfoliate, as well as clear away dirt and oils from your skin. It is also known to reduce acne and blemishes.

As you apply the mask, there are little chunks of primrose seeds and ground beans within the mix that are meant to exfoliate and rub off any dry, dead skin. It felt sticky as I applied it to my face, but this was no different than any other Lush mask.

Overall, this mask was my least favorite out of all the ones I tried. The scent was not overly strong, yet not as pleasing as some of the other masks I purchased. Additionally, this mask felt like it dried out my skin a little bit, but this might be better suited for those who have more oily skin. For those who are looking for a basic mask to simply clean your skin or give it a little boost, this would definitely be the best purchase for you.

3. Rosy Cheeks

Who doesn’t love to have that natural, blushing glow in their skin? Lush’s Rosy Cheeks mask is said to help balance skin and give it a healthy and youthful glow while preventing aging.

With the rose oil essence, this mask is designed to help calm skin and revitalize it from daily stressors that might aggravate skin conditions and increase signs of aging. This mask applied very smoothly and dried fairly quickly as it tightened on my face.

This mask was the most fragrant out of the four that were purchased, which could be slightly off-putting for those who are sensitive to scents. The clay in the mask did make my skin feel tighter, but I did not notice any remarkable or visible differences in my complexion. However, it did make my skin feel smoother after I washed it off. I probably will not buy this mask again, however I’d recommend this mask for those who are not sensitive to fragrances and want a no fuss mask that cleanses and tightens your skin.

4. Catastrophe Cosmetic

If you’re in need of a mask to prevent and stop breakouts, Lush says this is the mask for you. Curious to see if it worked, this was the final purchase I made.

Upon opening the container, the mask smells sweet and faintly of blueberry and rose, which is very calming and refreshing. The scent is subtle, yet still noticeable. When applying this mask, little granules help to buff out skin and remove dirt and build up. As the mask begins to dry, the chamomile oil in the spread helps to calm and gently tighten your skin.

Overall, I did enjoy using this mask and will most likely buy it again. After washing it off, my skin felt very smooth and tight but not over-dried, stripped, or uncomfortable. It is also very safe on sensitive skin and does not irritate it. While I wouldn’t say this mask completely eliminated breakouts, I would recommend this mask for those who do have sensitive skin and are looking to prevent future breakouts from popping up.

To sum up, Lush’s four most popular masks are a good way to give your skin a little TLC. While I did like some more than others, this ultimately depends on your unique skin type and what you’re looking for in a mask.
