This week we collaborated with our sister chapter, Her Campus Leeds, to bring you this ultimate guide to where you should eat and drink in the city they call home…
Â
Â
Â
Leeds is a pretty great place to eat and drink, and it has been recognised as being home to the most independent restaurants and bars in the UK along with Newcastle! Weâve compiled our favourite spots to grab some great food and drink on a budgetâŠ
Â
MAYS
Mays provides you with authentic Thai food on a budget. With most Leeds students living in Hyde Park area, youâre never really more than a 10-minute walk away from some top notch pad thai. Not only can you get a starter and a main for under ÂŁ10, but it’s BYOB! Mays is tiny but super popular, so if youâre planning to head down on a Friday of Saturday, make sure you reserve a table or youâll be fighting for a seat.
Â
Bakery 164
Bakery 164 is famous amongst students in Leeds. It brightens up a long day of lectures with its gourmet selection of sandwiches sold on home baked bread, and itâs home to some of the best sandwiches weâve ever eaten.
It’s a tiny sandwich shop just opposite the Parkinson Building, and is rammed from 12-2pm everyday so you have to be prepared to wait 10 minutes for your toasted sandwich. However trust us when we say it will be worth every bite!
Â
Manhatta
There are 2 branches of Manahatta in Leeds. Itâs a funky, stylish split-level bar âBringing a taste of New York to Downtown Leeds’; think blue leather plush booth seats and cocktails. They do a fantastic âBoozy Bottomless Brunchâ which features unlimited drinks: a choice of prosecco, bloody mary, coors or aperol spritz. There’s also a delicious brunch meal included for ÂŁ22 a head. You have the table for 1.5 hours, and itâs something you HAVE to do at least once – perfect for parties!
Â
Terrace
Terrace is (the better) one of two resident student bars located in the heart of the Union on campus â the perfect location for summer evenings, drinking 241 cocktails on the huge roof terrace, having a pint after a long day of uni or just to have a catch up with some friends over a few drinks and some great food. Go to University of Leeds and expect to hear âTerrace?â thrown around at least 10 times a day.
Â
North Bar
North Bar is a small bar in the centre of Leeds located just across the road from Belgrave (another one of our favourite spots) and itâs a great place to head to any night of the week. Itâs a really relaxed vibe and they have reasonably priced drinks.
North Bar is great place to drink before heading âout outâ or even to sit and chat until the early hours. TOP TIP: they sell tequila shots with a verede chaser. Itâs lethal, and we donât know what is in the chaser but it makes tequila drinkableâŠ
