I don’t know about you, but I love having time to relax and not stress about school. Spring break is always associated with the idea of going somewhere with your friends to a warm location or having a crazy week of partying. While this can be true in some cases, sometimes this break is a time to go home and de-stress so you can take on the rest of the semester. Here are 5 ways to get the best out of your week home.

  1. Sleep In Something I’ve noticed every time I go home after being away for so long is sleep for hours. Our bodies are always on the go at school, especially if you’re living on campus. You always go back and forth to class, perhaps participate in a lot of activities and constantly hang out with your friends. It’s all fun, but your body never gets a chance to truly relax and feel at home. Even when I’m in my twin XL bed I don’t feel rested or as comfortable as I would like to be. To be home in your own bed lets your body know it can relax and not stress out anymore. So take a day to sleep in and recover from all your hard work.
  2. Catch Up with Friends and Family

Being away from home can be hard on the friendships that you may have before going away to college. Take the break to catch up with some friends who are close to you and even see some family. You can catch up over home cooked meals or going to your favorite hang out spots. This can be relaxing and keeps the connections you have with them strong.

  3. Do What You Want

I like to take the time to do things that maybe I didn’t get a chance to do before I left home or I just want to explore. Maybe I’ll go to that new restaurant in town or visit the local museum I haven’t been to in ages. This is your chance to do something you love and not have to worry about not having time to do it. You can even plan it with friends so you can share the experiences with someone.

  4. Spend Time Alone

As much as you want to see your family and friends when you come home, sometimes you need to be with yourself. At school you’re always around friends or your roommates. You don’t always have a huge amount of time alone. Chances are maybe your parents are working during the week or your siblings are at school still as well, so take the time to be alone. Go for a walk, watch some movies and just appreciate yourself.

  5. Organize and Prepare

This is not relaxing to many people, but I think it’s relaxing to organize yourself for school so that when you get back you’re prepared. I do this by writing a to-do list of things that need to get done, check what deadlines I may have coming up and also by writing out important dates in my planner. If you do all of this now you can go back refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the semester.

Enjoy your break Valiants whether you’re going away or staying home. Relax because you’ve earned it!
