There are pros and cons to every season. Winter is probably the most controversial season. Many people love winter and many others hate it. What are your thoughts on winter?

In the winter, there are so many things to do. Here are a few things people do during the winter:

Skiing and snowboarding

People love to get outside, even in the cold. A big thing people can do in the winter is go skiing and/or snowboarding. They are fun sports and an interesting, challenging way to spend time out in nature, instead of being cooped up in the house all day. When skiing, it’s harder to try and control two skis than one, but it’s fun. With snowboarding, you are constantly falling and learning cool new tricks and failing but mostly laughing about all the failed attempts on the obstacles. After being out in the snow, going up and down the slopes a few times, people will go into the ski lodge and have a nice cup of hot chocolate and a good meal before continuing to ski.

Snowball Fight!

Have you ever seen a movie set in the winter? Then you may have seen a snowball fight. Have you ever picked up a ball of snow and threw it at your friend? Or been targeted in a snowball fight? If not, try it sometime. It’s fun! People go back and forth throwing snowballs at one another until some get a snowball down their shirt or they call a truce.

Ice Skating

A fun way to break the ice when deciding what to do during the winter is to go ice skating. You can go with friends or family. If you don’t know how to, it’s fun to try and learn from a friend or family member. Like with skiing and snowboarding, you learn the basics, but once you have that, it’s fun to learn tricks. Another thing about ice skating is that when you fall on the ice, it hurts, it’s cold, but so funny. If you’ve ever seen hockey or figure skating, it’s pretty remarkable what talent they have to be able to skate like it’s second nature.

Snow Fortress and Snowmen

Think back to when you were a kid hanging out with your neighborhood friends and you would go out and sled down the hill in your neighborhood. Or if you didn’t have a hill to sled down, you would get creative by pulling each other around. If you’re lucky, you can get good packing snow and make fun hills and obstacles to try and sled down. Some people like to make a snowman for their neighbors to see when driving by. Building a snowman takes 6 easy steps.

  1. Roll three separate balls of snow however big you want, just making each one smaller than the next.
  2. Then stack them on top of each other starting from biggest to smallest.
  3. Put buttons or small rocks vertically up and down the front middle of the snowmans bottom two snowballs. On the top snowball, put two buttons or rocks eye-width apart for the eyes.
  4. Next, find two twigs and stick them on each side of the snowman for his arms.
  5. Find a carrot for his nose, and put it between the eyes slightly lower.
  6. And finally, if you want to finish the snowman, put a scarf around the snowman’s neck area and/or a top hat on his head.

Movies

Who doesn’t love movies? There are so many movies for each season. When it comes to winter, all I can think of is Christmas. There are over a thousand movies made specifically to vibe with the Christmas season. Some must-see traditional Christmas movies are:

  1. ‘The Polar Express’
  2. ‘A Christmas Carol’
  3. ‘Home Alone’ (1 and 2)
  4. ‘Elf’
  5. ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’
  6. ‘The Nutcracker’
  7. ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’
  8. ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ (both the animated and live-action versions)
  9. ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’
  10. ‘A Christmas Story’

Christmas lights

To finish off the Christmas season spirit, you must experience the scenery. Take a look outside and embrace the winter snowfall. If you can, try and decorate your house full of seasonal decorations from the inside out. It’s so fun to decorate, and it gets you into the holiday mood. Many families decorate a Christmas tree, wrapping it in bright, twinkling lights and tinsel, and filling the gaps of the tree with ornaments. One fun activity to do on Christmas Eve is to go drive around your neighborhood and look at all the pretty lights wrapped around your neighbors’ homes.

With all there is to do in the winter, I’d suggest you try to do at least one of these. Most of all enjoy the spirit of the holidays, and have a wonderful winter.
