I hate typing, which is funny because as someone with a focus in computer science, I have to type for the majority of my day. I feel a sense of distaste when I look at a plain piece of typed up paper. There is no personality to the writing. I cannot see the hidden traits of the writer that you normally find in a piece that is handwritten. It all looks the same to me, and at a first glance, there seems to be no difference than if a robot were typing it.

I have collected handwritten notes from family and friends for all of my life. I have drawers full of cards and letters that I will never get rid of. Every time I read the notes, my heart is filled with joy. When I see a handwritten note, I can tell who the person is and how they were feeling at that very moment. For instance, if they write messy, I can see that they may have an impatient side and a sense of rebellion. Or if they connect and loop their letters, they may be very imaginative and unknowingly add more emotion into their writing.

I’ve always loved seeing the differences in handwriting and how we all interrupt writing in our own way. There are no rules that say you cannot add curls to your Ys or put a line through your Zs. It is your own personal form of expression and tells the reader who you are, which is why I will always prefer handwritten work over typed.
