During the latter half of fall, I’m usually pretty tired and ready for a break. After completing assignment after assignment and taking test after test, I really start to look forward to spending time away from the classroom. Because I’m an out-of-state student, going home for the weekend isn’t really possible. So, most of the time, the first chance I get to spend some time away from campus is Thanksgiving. Here’s a list of what I’m looking forward to during Thanksgiving break!
Spending time with family and friends.
As basic as it is, I genuinely do always look forward to seeing my mom, dad, and brother. Being away from them for months on end is really hard, and I really do cherish the time I get to spend with them. Although Thanksgiving break is only a few days, I try to spend every waking moment with them, whether it’s having dinner together or just hanging out in the living room. I just love spending time with them!
Meeting up with my high school best friends.
My best friends and I went to high school together, but we now go to three different colleges, in three different states. It was really hard going from seeing them every weekday for eight hours at school, and then another few hours on the weekends, to just a few times every couple of months. But Thanksgiving is when we are all home and able to reunite. During Thanksgiving break, we try to make the most out of our limited time together and usually end up doing something fun before we leave. Last year, we went to an escape room and had a blast! This year, we’re planning a hike in the beautiful Shenandoah Mountains, which I can’t wait for!
Sleeping in my own bed.
Don’t get me wrong, my bed here at school is super comfortable, but something about my bed in my childhood house just hits different. Maybe it’s the fact that my parents are in the room just down the hall, or the fact that I hear the faint clicking of my brother’s keyboard in the room next to mine, or that I know whose footsteps are walking down the hall that makes me feel safe and at peace. But also, after months of being away from home, sleeping at home feels just right.
Catching up on my crochet projects.
During the school year, I’m usually so busy that I rarely have free time for my hobbies. I just picked up crocheting this past summer, and I’ve been hooked ever since! But ever since the school year started, I struggled to find time to complete projects in progress. What would take me a day or two to complete during the summer would take me weeks to only get halfway through. But with school on pause for a few days during the break, I’m so excited to catch up on my projects!
Of course, there are a million reasons why I look forward to Thanksgiving break, but these were just a glimpse of what I’m excited about, besides the holiday itself. November 27th can’t come fast enough!
