Welcome to BBπ: Scene Queen’s Pink Rover

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

“Red light, yellow light, pink light, no. You’ll never ever ever ever take me home.” – From Scene Queen’s latest single: Pink Rover.

Hannah Collins, also known as Scene Queen, dropped a new song and music video on March 3rd, 2022. The song, Pink Rover, a play on words from the childhood game ‘Red Rover,’ tackles how society has become desensitized to the catcalling and sexual harrasment that women face everywhere, every day.

Everywhere, every day, even while simply walking down the street.

The song is an absolute bop and will surely stand as an anthem for young women everywhere.

The music video itself is artfully made and and full of pink, with references to ‘Bimbo-Core,’ the brand she has been building up following her entry into the music world from the single Pretty in Pink that was released back in August of 2021.

In an interview with Rock Sound TV, Collins stated, “This song was written to feel the rage I feel towards a society that allows women to be treated that way.” The article, written by Jack Rogers, can be found here.

Scene Queen is the voice and the role model that we have been waiting for, the one that we need. She is only in her early 20s and is paving her way into the male dominated genres of rock and alternative music while promoting and bringing a call to action regarding the issues that she and most other women face on the daily.

Emo music and culture is making a come back after all, or at least one can hope. And when, okay, if, it does, I am totally for mixing pink in with the black.

Female empowerment at its finest.

“Welcome to Bimbo Beta Pi,” Scene Queen commented under the Pink Rover music video. “A new scene sisterhood that’s tired of being silent. It is built upon the women before me in the scene and will continue to grow long after I leave it. Bimbo Beta Pi is the start of a community not just for my music but for all of us, especially women, to feel included in this scene. I’m so happy to see how much conversation this song has sparked already and I can’t wait to see what we can all do together. Welcome to the sisterhood can’t wait to see you all at our first meeting. Until then, enjoy this video. – Scene Queen (Your newest sister, Hannah).”
