Productive Things to Do to Start The New Year Off Right

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Another year rolls around which means that new year resolutions have started. Although it is almost February, I decided to make a list of productive tasks that you can incorporate into your daily schedule. If you commit to sticking to a task for a couple months, you may form a new productive habit that you will not regret.

Drink More Water

Drinking water has many other benefits besides being hydrated, such as improved sleep quality, cognition, and mood. You may think you drink enough water, but around 75% of Americans are dehydrated. A couple years ago, I used to get headaches everyday because I was not drinking nearly enough water. If you do not like drinking water, try getting a cute water bottle and add some healthy mix-ins like lemon slices or fruit to add more flavor.

Get Your Steps In

With some classes or jobs being online, you may not get in as many steps as you would have before. When you have a break during school or work, get up from your desk and go on a walk. Walks can help increase your physical activity, improve your mood, and release stress. A helpful tip is to listen to a podcast or your current favorite playlists to make your walk more enjoyable.

Manage Your Screen Time

For most people, your work, school, entertainment, and communication source often comes from a screen. You probably spend more time on your electronics in a day than you think. Although technology is a part of our everyday lives, it is good to take a break to spend time with friends and family.

Eat Some Healthy Meals

There are numerous benefits from eating nutritious meals that are often easy to incorporate into your diet. You can always start out small by eating more fruits or vegetables everyday, but there are plenty of healthy delicious meals online. If you have a crazy schedule and often do not have time to cook, you can either meal prep or use a food subscription box to incorporate more healthy meals.

Make Sure Your Getting Enough Sleep

This may seem like an obvious one, but sleep is incredibly important. By making sure you are getting enough sleep, your body and mind will thank you. Don’t be afraid to sleep-in an extra hour if it means you will be more productive that day.

I hope you decide to incorporate at least one of these productive tasks into your daily routine. Let’s start the new year off right!
