Mock Election for the characters of ‘Ted Lasso’

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Over Christmas break, I finally watched the infamous ‘Ted Lasso’ that consumed people all over the globe. I understand the obsession. It’s a 10/10 show for a reason. Upon completing the 3 season show, I propose a riveting question: What mock elections would characters from ‘Ted Lasso’ win?

Warning: ‘Ted Lasso’ spoilers ahead!

Keeley Jones:

“Biggest Hype Woman”

Do I say more? I feel like this one is self-explanatory. Although Rebecca initially hesitates, Keeley and Rebecca become close friends throughout the show. Keeley hypes up Rebecca, the entire team, Nate, and her ex. Keeley is a “girls-girl” through and through!

Roy Kent:

“Looks like they would kill you. Is a cinnamon roll”

We all know Roy Kent as the macho, swearing, tough exterior character. Yet, beneath all that rough exterior, Roy cares a lot about those around him. His niece, Phoebe, loves him, and his actions around her change to reflect his care for her. With Keeley, he is caring, understanding, and sometimes stupid, but he always comes back around. Even though he and Jamie butted heads through the whole show, there are many instances where the two of them share moments of friendship.

Jamie Tartt:

“Best Character Arc”

Like most people, I did not like Jamie in the beginning; he was the pompous, arrogant, selfish player, but it’s always those who we hate that grow on us the most. Through many tribulations, Jamie becomes a slightly more mature version of himself—a team player. If you had told me Jamie Tart would end up being my favorite character of the series, I would have laughed, and I’m pleased to say that Jamie proved me wrong.

Nathan Shelly, aka Nate:

“Worst Character Arc”

Like most people, Nate’s betrayal made me very mad at him. Honestly, I thought his actions lacked precedent, and I still don’t fully understand why he did what he did in the first place. I loved Nate in the first season. I thought he was a good character; he played off the other characters well and added depth to the scenes and the plot. Those thoughts didn’t age well, leaving him with the “Worst Character Arc” mock election.

Rebecca Welton:

“Biggest Girl Boss”

I hope I’m not the only one who loves Rebecca. She EARNS the title: “Girl Boss.” One of my favorite scenes from Rebecca that screams “Girl Boss” is when she ridicules Zava while he is in the bathroom. Although not her intent, Zava ends up playing for Richmond because of this interaction. This scene is just one example, but there are various scenes in which Rebecca crushes on being a “Girl Boss.”

Ted Lasso:

“Biggest Heart”

Ted captures the audience’s hearts and has a heart of gold himself. He took every criticism and hardship in stride, from locals spewing insults at him, his boss trying to sabotage him, Nate revealing sensitive information to the press, and having his players not respect him, and he was kind through it all. Ted is the definition of “being the bigger person.” The fact that Ted did not yell at Nate after being betrayed is admirable; if it were me, Nate would have experienced some “passionate” language from me. But that’s what Ted does. He sees the good in those around him.

Beard:

“Most Questionable Relationship”

I still have so many questions about Beard’s relationship with Jane. I’ve lost count of how many times they have broken up and got back together. That can’t be healthy, right? Although we see little of their relationship, I feel as though what we do see on screen is always a little weird or makes you question things about their relationship. But Beard is arguably a bit of a bizarre character, so I guess his relationship dynamic is fitting.

Overall, I think all the characters in “Ted Lasso” were developed exceptionally well, and the character growth seen within the show is unmatched. I honestly wished there was more for me to watch, but I’m glad I didn’t have to wait for the next season to come out as I watched it.
