It’s about time we realize that the world around us is suffering and needs our help. Temperatures are getting higher, sea levels are rising, and loss of glaciers and longer heat waves are signs we have chosen to ignore. However, there is still time to do something about these changes happening around us. One of the many things we could do is be more sustainable: reduce the amount of plastic and single-use products in our daily lives. It can be hard to find good sustainable products, but don’t worry – here’s a list of products we could use!

  1. Cleancult:

This company is composed of a team of PhD scientists from Puerto Rico who did extensive research to find biodegradable ingredients that are easy on the environment. Even the ingredients used in their products are made from  coconut based technology called CoCoClean. You can make a one-time purchase of their reusable bottles and get refills whenever you need it and it’s delivered right to your door. It’s easy and accessible and a great way to cut back on cleaning supply bottles.

  1. Violet Grey’s toothpaste bits:

These single-use toothpaste tablets keep our teeth and our oceans healthy. They are stored in a reusable glass jar and refills come in a compostable bag. These toothpaste bites are also made with all natural ingredients that fight stains and whiten teeth, just like any other toothpaste.

  1. Last Swab:

Cotton swabs may be small and seem like they don’t cause a lot of damage, but throwing them out in handfuls each year is extremely harmful to the environment. Using a reusable ear swab has the same effect as your disposable q-tip. They can be used for cleaning ears or every-day makeup removal. After each use, give it a good clean and store it in its case. After a while, when you feel that it’s time to throw it out, it’s completely compostable or goes in the recycling bin.

  1. Sqwishful Plant-based sponge:

We all know that regular sponges don’t last long, nor are they good for the environment. These plant-based sponges are dye-free and come in a pack of three (which is the same as regular sponges!). When it needs some freshening up, it can just go at the top of your dishwasher and it will be good as new. The best part is that when you’re done with it, it can go in the compost pile and won’t do any harm to the environment.

  1. Humankind Shampoo bar:

Shampoo and conditioner bottles are extremely harmful as well – as we may know, they’re also plastic bottles like the ones we use to drink out of. The good thing about these shampoo bars is that they’re more concentrated and also use healthier ingredients. Humankind uses all natural and vegan ingredients that nourish our hair. It’s hard to let go of our Olaplex bottles, but it will be worth it in the long run and it’s healthier for our hair.

There are endless possibilities and options to be more sustainable and live in a better environment. The changes that seem small and meaningless to us can have  a great impact on our planet. The more we spread the word about reusable and more eco-friendly products as opposed to single usage, our future can be brighter for future generations as well as ourselves.
