Five On-Campus Eats That Aren’t Another Dining Hall

Are you sick of pizza and burgers? Do you not want mashed potatoes four times a week? Do you not have money to spend off-campus?

If nothing on the dining hall menu sounds good, here are five great places to shake up your meals.

  1. The Workshop: Located in the STEM Teaching and Learning Facility, The Workshop offers delicious sandwiches and soups to go, along with a really cool market. My personal favorite is the BLT with a side of sweet potato chips. Plus, it has a really cool study area, so what’s not to love?
  2. Woody’s Mediterranean: While the lines for Subway and Panda Express in the International Center grow and grow, most students seem to overlook the hidden gem of Woody’s. Offering Middle Eastern classics like baba ganoush, mujadara, hummus for a snack, or gyros and falafel wraps for a bigger meal, Woody’s brings the delightful flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine to campus.
  3. Sparty’s Market: The Sparty’s in 1855 Place is like the cooler older sibling to the convenience stores located throughout campus. It offers a wide variety of premade sushi, salads, and sandwiches for a convenient grab-and-go option. The grill also serves up fresh sandwiches and sides, which make for a perfect hot lunch. Don’t forget to complete your combo with some of the candies you can only get there!
  4. Biggby Coffee: The classic Michigan coffeehouse located in the MSU Union is one of the best places to grab anything from breakfast to an evening pick-me-up. Offering bagel sandwiches, muffins, yogurt parfaits, and of course, their delicious coffee drinks, Biggby is sure to satisfy your cravings. Plus, it’s open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m, so you can get your coffee fix at almost any time of the day.
  5. The Union Food Court: While it technically is a dining hall, the Union boasts 2 delicious spots to grab dinner. First, The Roost offers a limited menu of fries, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and a few side items. But, the chicken tenders are arguably the best on campus and are worth trying at least once. Right next to it is the Unbelieva-BOWL station, which offers several delicious and fresh grain bowls. If you’re not hungry, you can grab one and save it for lunch the next day.

So, if you’re in a rut with the dining halls, fear not!
