Curing Your Sweet Tooth – Dorm Friendly Edition

When you are craving something sweet, and the dining hall food is not cutting it, give these easy recipes a try.

Crispy Rice Treats

  • 1 pack of marshmallows
  • ½ cup of peanut/almond butter
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 6 cups of rice cereal
  1. Melt marshmallows, nut butter of choice, and butter in 90 second intervals – be careful not to burn the marshmallows
  2. Mix in rice cereal
  3. Stir until it’s fully mixed
  4. Grease pan 
  5. Spread into pan
  6. Allow mixture to cool

Truffles

  • 1 bag of circus animal cookies or 1 pack of Oreos
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • Melting chocolate
  1. Place the cookies in a plastic bag
  2. Crush the cookies until they resemble a dust-like constancy
  3. Add cream cheese and mix everything together
  4. Roll the mixture into small balls and place them on a plate or baking sheet
  5. Pop into the freezer for at least an hour
  6. Melt the desired amount of chocolate
  7. Coat the balls in the melted chocolate
  8. Put the coated balls back in the freezer until the chocolate hardens

No Bakes

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup of butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups of quick oats
  1. Microwave the sugar, cocoa, milk, and butter for a minute and a half (taking out and stirring in between 30 second intervals)
  2. Stir in peanut butter, vanilla, and oats
  3. Drop onto wax paper and shape as desired
  4. Let cool

Chocolate Covered Coconutties

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 14 oz of sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups fine coconut flakes
  • 2 ½ cups chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp butter
  1. Mix the sugar, condensed milk, vanilla, and dried coconut
  2. Roll the mixture into small balls
  3. Place the balls on a lined cookies plate or pan
  4. Pop into the freezer for at least an hour
  5. Melt the chocolate and butter and mix until combined
  6. Dip the coconut balls into the chocolate and place them back on the sheet
  7. Store in the fridge until ready to eat
