Assigning halloween characters to “midnights” songs from taylor swift’s new album

  1. The Devil

I was a devil last year and while it wasn’t the most unique option and I ran into a devil everywhere I went, I did love the red color scheme. When I think of the devil, I think of evil and revenge. That is why I’m assigning the Devil to Vigilante Shit. In that song, the beat alone makes you feel like getting revenge on everyone who has ever wronged you. It’s so dark yet polite at the same time, and I don’t know how she does it. She sings in that song, “You did some bad things, but I’m the worst of them.”

  1. Cruella Deville

One of my costumes is the classic villain from 101 Dalmatians. She recently got her own film. I love how despite her appearance, her motives are anything but black and white. The Taylor Swift song she resembles is Anti-Hero. I’ve always wanted to write a villain as a protagonist, but it’s very hard to do. Her movie does a great job because it shows how she turns into a villain and her mom trumps her badness enough to make her seem like a protagonist. I was rooting for her throughout. She’s the central character yet does bad things, and that’s what I call an anti-hero.

  1. Time Machine

Who ever said you had to be a person for Halloween? A time machine goes great with Taylor’s new song called Mastermind. It’s about how she already knows what’s going to happen before it happens because she plans out everything to get the desired result she wants. Going back in the past and changing events is what this song makes me think of. If you can think of a person like this, that’s even cooler!

  1. Cute Sky

You could wear a cute blue dress and wear a star headband. This one is a little more unique. It goes with Bigger Than The Whole Sky by Taylor. An even better costume would be to make it a couples costume, and make someone a sky then someone something that trumps the sky, because the song is about a relationship where sadly it’s not meant to be; where that relationship meant so much to Taylor that she saw them as the biggest thing in her life. She says, “I’m never gonna meet what could’ve been, would’ve been, what should’ve been you.” It’s a masterpiece.

  1. Cinderella & Flapper

If you’re a swiftie, you probably know where I’m going with this and probably have already seen the music video. Bejeweled is about Taylor coming out and saying she doesn’t need to settle for someone who doesn’t treat her as the shining star she is. She’s allowed to sparkle. In the music video, I saw Cinderella and a Flapper storyline. Others may interpret it differently, but I see Cinderella as the traditional princess where the prince gets to claim her at midnight and take her away. While Cinderella does shine, a flapper brings out a more rebellious side, showing that Taylor is resisting her traditional role, showing she doesn’t have to be a princess to be pretty and adored.

  1. Twin Costume. One friend is rain, the other is the sun.

This costume would look so cute! Taylor’s song, Midnight Rain, is about a relationship that ended because while the guy stayed the same, she didn’t. Once upon a time they were good together, but now Taylor has changed and grew apart from the guy and the version of herself that was compatible with him. People change as they get older and learn things, and so she grew out of the relationship. Her and the guy became opposites. He wanted different things than she did. Showing these differences in costume is definitely a good way to go! Some lyrics from that one are, “He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain. He wanted a bride, I was making my own name.”

I hope I’ve inspired you to check out Midnights if you haven’t already! Why just listen to the album when you can dress as the songs too?

One last thing: Dear reader, for Halloween, you should get your nails painted maroon. It’s college, so you can do what you want. You’re on your own, kid. No one can get in the way of your fun evening because karma does exist, and what would’ve, could’ve, and should’ve happened will happen.
