With Halloween rapidly approaching, I feel like a weight has lifted now that I have picked out all of my costumes. Every year I remember how hard the decision process is and that it’s even worse when I’m trying to pick something last-minute. As someone who has been victim to last-minute Halloween outfits and the stress that it comes with, here are some ideas I didn’t go through with that are up for grabs.

  1. The Very Hungry Caterpillar

A great idea if you have a lot of green in your wardrobe; dresses, tops, skirts, pants, anything will do! The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a popular picture book. It is famously used for children who are just beginning their journey of reading and, as it tells the story of a growing caterpillar who becomes a butterfly, it makes for a recognizable and straightforward costume. To produce this costume, wear a green outfit of your choice, pair it with clunky and circular jewelry, and fun makeup to elevate the look! Do you like wearing fun jewelry? If so, and you have fruit jewelry, this could be a chance to utilize it as this costume’s staple, making for an amazing chance to use them and their flair.

  1. Rainbow Fish

If your closet is full of sparkles this is a great option for you! Rainbow fish is another character from a childhood book that was in elementary school galore a few years ago, making for a recognizable costume. Anything with a light blue shade can be a great start to this outfit. Clothes with sparkles along with a calm ocean color palate and sea themed accessories can create a great rendition of this. If you want the opportunity to be crafty, this could be your chance! Add gems, sparkles, and fish net-like material to a light blue outfit, fashioning the final outfit for yourself. Makeup can carry a costume such as this one to the highest of standards, and if this is something you want to implement there are many tutorials on sea creature makeup (such as mermaids and scale patterns) that will work for creating a rainbow fish inspired costume.

  1. The Other Mother

Have you taken part in the growing polka dot trend? Do you enjoy wearing black and white? Then you might already have everything you need to create this costume! In Coraline, a beloved Halloween classic, a notable character is The Other Mother and all the horrors she brings into the main character, Coraline’s, life. And with her terror she brings a rather unique character design. Donning a top and skirt that are black with white polka dots, her key character component are her button eyes, which can bring a spooky element to your outfit. The eye look can be fashioned from makeshift glasses and if you are really talented and dedicated, a very detailed eye makeup look can also accomplish this.

  1. Mime

Another costume that will require buying minimum items. All you really need is a black and white striped shirt, and from there you can build with what you have access to, creating the visual look you want to emit. Black micro shorts are a great item to pair the shirt with, as well as pants, and skirts of any length. To upgrade this look to its full potential add mime makeup, tutorials are accessible and easier in skill level, or add a beret, honing in on the French origin of mimes themselves.

  1. Dalmation

Finally, another costume that utilizes the popularity of polka dotted clothing, especially cute going out clothes! Instead, this uses the inverse of the costume mentioned before. White clothing that is adorned with black polka dots is one of the more common color combinations I have seen with the polka dots, as it’s such a cute way to elevate a basic all white outfit. With a small purchase of dog ears, maybe even a collar, and a makeup look as realistic or cute as you want, this costume is not only easy to generate but cute to wear.

Hopefully these costume ideas appealed to you, and if not, they got the wheels turning in your head as they are giving you your own ideas. Sometimes you just need to hear other ideas to get closer to the Halloween costume that’s meant for you. As Halloween quickly approaches, I hope everyone finds their perfect outfit and has the best Halloweekend possible!
