5 Charities To Donate to for the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

The holidays are filled with joy and cheer that is meant to be spread around with everyone around us. Sometimes people don’t necessarily need gifts, they just need to know they helped someone. Or, maybe you feel like giving back and helping someone during this time. It can be hard to find great charities that you would want to support. Here’s a list of five charities that you could donate this holiday season!

1. Toys for Tots:

This charity has provided toys for less fortunate kids since 1947. It is considered to be one of the best charities for children. You can make a donation online and leave a personal message for a child in need as well. It’s a great way to allow children in need to feel the same joy children coming from more fortunate families.

2. Save the Children:

This charity allows a child to have a sponsorship. Each donation will give them the power to drive change in their lives, families, and communities. At Save the Children, they believe that every child deserves a future, an opportunity to learn, and protection from harm. There’s different types of sponsorships that are available to help the children in different ways.

3. American Humane:

The holidays are a great time to reunite with family, and family should always include our animals. Not every animal has a proper home, and American Humane is the oldest organization dedicated to keeping animals safe. This charity rescues pets from poor living conditions and natural disasters by placing them in loving homes. You can donate by giving a monetary gift or even donating your car.

4. Mental Health America:

Holidays can be hard on certain people. Mental Health America provides year-round educational programs and mental health screenings. They offer 24/7 support for those in need during the holidays. During the holidays they provide hope with many free resources and guides to help through this season. You can donate monetarily, volunteering, or collecting funds to address mental wellness.

5. Operation Blessing:

This charity offers ongoing and strategic relief after a disaster in more than 90 countries around the world. They coordinate programs like medical care, hunger aid, and clean water as resources for disaster survivors. This is a great charity to donate to during the holidays to those in need after a life changing event.

It’s important to keep in mind that there are people and animals who also wish to have a holiday season filled with joy and cheer. There’s many other charities accepting donations during the holidays as well. Hopefully this list gave you ideas for holiday gifts for yourself or someone else!
