A week off! Thank goodness. Spring Break is a joyous time to spend going on vacation, hanging with friends, and reading a good book. These are 3 books I recommend to read during Spring Break.

1. Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey

Over the years, McConaughey wrote in journals to keep track of his life and those journal entries are published in his novel, Greenlights. McConaughey’s book showcases a new side to the actor: his childhood, adventures, and early career. There is a different side to the man and he doesn’t hide the truth from his readers. McConaughey’s book is a remarkable retelling of his life, making it easy for you to imagine yourself as a young McConaughey in Texas before the money, fame, and accomplishments.

2. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight

There is no brand of shoe or apparel that has made more headway over the years than Nike. I remember getting my first pair of Nike sneakers and how much I loved wearing those shoes with all my outfits. Shoe Dog is a retelling of how Nike became the world-renowned company it is today. The reader learns about what Knight went through to get his company off the group and the life changing partnership Knight made along the way to make Nike a name-brand company. Knight narrates how he created Nike and where the idea came from. If you want to learn about the story of Knight and Nike, there is no better book to read than that of Shoe Dog.

3. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

When I was a young girl, I remember watching Gone with the Wind with my Pippi. I love the movie dearly, but I never imagined the book to be just as good. Gone with the Wind is set during the climax of the Civil War and the after effects on the Southern tradition and culture after the South lost to the North. The book accurately depicts the time period as well as the language used in this time period. Either way, Mitchell’s characters (Ashley Wilkes, Rhett Butler, Minnie Hamiliton, and Scarlett O’Hara) each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Through the book’s narration around Scarlett O’Hara, the reader is able to dive deep into life before and after the civil war.

I hope you enjoy reading this break period!
