8 Tips To Brighten Your Winter Days

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

It is now the middle of February, and if you’re like me spring fever is setting in. I am not a fan of long winters, and it often affects my mood. Here are 8 tips to brighten your life and avoid that seasonal depression that can easily develop this time of year.

Take Advantage of Natural Light

Winter is known for its extremely cloudy days. Sometimes it can feel like the sun doesn’t want to shine anymore. Whether it’s a cloudy day or one where the sun decides to peek through, open your windows and take advantage of the light shining in, no matter how big or small.

Keep Fresh Flowers or Plants In Your Home

It’s amazing the difference that having fresh plants or flowers in your home can make. Not only do they smell good, but they remind you that spring is just around the corner.

Wear Bright Colored Scarves, Beanies, Coats, Sweaters, Socks, Etc.

Accessorize with pops of color! There is nothing better than a pop of pink, blue, or even yellow in your wardrobe. You will be surprised at the impact that adding color to your daily attire will have on your day.

Wear Bright Colored Nails, Lipstick, And Hair Accessories

Once again add pops of color… this time in the beauty department! You’ll love looking in the mirror at your hot pink nails, your bright red lipstick, or even your yellow polka dot headband.

Eat Your Fruits and Veggies

It is never too early to start working on your summer body. Winter can often make us want to eat everything in sight for comfort reasons. (It happens to the best of us!) Don’t forget that eating healthier foods will not only make you feel better physically, but it will also help your mood and motivation.

Get Hot Drinks With Friends

Make the most of those bitter cold days and meet up with friends for some coffee or hot chocolate at the local cafe. Trust me, you will thank me later.

Stay Active

We often lose motivation to exercise when it is too cold outside. Don’t let the cold weather stop you. Go to the gym or attend a hot yoga class. It will be warm outside soon enough, and you can get back to your favorite hike or trail run then. In the meantime, take care of your body and stay in shape.

Relax

Last but not least, it’s totally cool to sit by the fire in your sweats on a cold winter day. Nothing screams comfort more than a warm and cozy home. Sitting back to relax doesn’t mean you are lazy or unmotivated. Rejuvenate your mind and body… it will brighten your day!
