New Trend: Cowboy Boot Chic

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

On almost every Mizzou gameday, girls can be seen walking around in pair of cowgirl boots. The choices range from short, tall, black, white, and jeweled to embroidered cowboy boots; they’re an SEC game day staple. But, why?

Cowboy boots have always been worn—especially at SEC schools—but this year, it seems to be all the rage. It’s not just at Mizzou that I’m seeing cowboys; they’re all over my TikTok’s For You Page and on fashion icons like Kendall Jenner and Lily-Rose Depp.

It could be due to the fact that Taylor Swift is re-recording her country albums, or that space cowgirl seemed to be the “it girl” costume this year. Either way, the Fall/Winter 2021 fashion shows prove that cowboy boots are back.

From traditional leather to new metallics and bold colors, the trick is to incorporate this trend into your everyday style. Pair with classic denim, comfy knits, or your favorite dress. Isabel Marant’s collection provides the best inspiration if you’re struggling to style your cowboy boots. Models are seen pairing elevated burgundy Western boots with basic knitwear, creating a trendy yet comfortable outfit.

Here are three cowboy boot options all under $50, which is reasonable for a student budget.

1. Red Cowboy Boots

These are my personal favorite; I love the bright color which stands out from more traditional cowboy boots. I think these would pair great with a simple white dress or denim shorts while the weather is still a bit warmer. These boots can easily transition into fall with a black or cream sweater.

2. white knee-high cowboy boots

Seen all over TikTok and Instagram, white boots are being worn by every influencer right now. The neutral colors go great with anything. Pair these with a floral skirt or midi dress and create a more girly, chic look.

3. Black embroidered Cowboy boots

These boots are what I define as “cowboy chic.” These are more understated than the bright red and can be a staple from the upcoming season. These boots paired with a black dress would be adorable for going out, or if you like dressing up for game days.
