We all have those days where it seems no matter what time we go to bed the night before, how mentally prepared we are for that major bio-psych test, and how loving our friends are, things will go wrong.

You will wake up late. Five minutes before you usually leave. You will brush your teeth over the trashcan and throw you hair into a messy bun just so you can get out the door. But, most likely, in the meantime, you will most certainly drop your overnight oats and break your mason jar. To your horror, you have to beg your roommate to clean up the broken remnants so you can get to class on time.

But, don’t worry. Even though you are not as polished as you would like, you are still exhausted, and for some inexcusable reason, the guy next to you smells like fish. There are still ways that you can make life so much better in under ten minutes.

1. Prepare your positive playlist.

You will find me on good days and not-so-great days jamming out to some of my favorites. Because of my eclectic taste, I listen to Eric Satie, a classical French compsoser, J-Biebs, Persephone’s Bees, Russian artists, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. Maybe, you are more of a country music gal. You just gotta find some tunes that pump you up and make you smile. Bonus points for a mini dance session.

2. Wear cute clothes.

This may be difficult if you are ever running late or it is laundry day. However, I know when I wear my favorite color pink, some skinny jeans, or leopard anything, I usually feel more comfortable.

3. Give someone a genuine compliment.

I firmly believe that everyone on this earth is captivating in some manner. Whether it is Becca’s bright smile, Sam’s charm when he presents his business project in class, or Sasha’s corny jokes, seeing and acknowledging the good makes you more susceptible to further your positivity as well as increase others.

4. Call home.

Chances are that you love your family. Enough said!

5. Check things off your to-do list.

Go grocery shopping, finish that English essay, and do the dishes. You’ll be much more relieved when you can watch Netflix in peace!!!

6. Exercise!

You can thank Elle Woods because you know that endorphins make you happy! Hit up the rec for a spin class, get your booty over to team practice, or go for a mini hike in Miami’s surrounding woods! Pressed for time? Try to take min breaks every 45 minutes for a 5-10 minute stroll in your dorm or the Armstrong center!

7. Prioritize sleep, hygiene, and most importantly, if you find day after day seems to be the worst, change something!

Is your major a drag? Do you often feel upset by your friends? Do you feel overwhelmed all the time? Just take a few minutes and reflect! Chances are that you’ll feel so much more empowered to make your future days better!
