Small Changes to Your Life to get a Flatter Stomach

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Maryland chapter.

Working out and eating healthy in order to obtain a healthy lifestyle and fit body is something every girl struggles with, especially college students. With late night Ratsies runs, drunk eating Slices (or the whole pie), Stamp being loaded with all your favorite fast foods (Hello Chick-fil-a), and of course stuffing your face with buffet style dining hall food at 251, it’s as if you will never get the ideal body you want. Plus who wants to walk all the way to the gym?

It’s hard to stay in shape and eat healthy with all this negative motivation around you so surround yourself with positive motivation instead. Follow those corny Instagram accounts and twitter accounts with quotes that tell you to run faster, and post pictures of fruit. Some of the accounts can post pretty douche-baggy sayings, but sometimes they actually post healthy meals and snacks that look delicious. It’s all about the mentality.

Next continue with that motivation for yourself. Keep reminders in your planner… do NOT go and buy six croissants from Footprints coffee shop or schedule time inside your planner to maybe take that mile long adventure to the gym.

Reduce alcohol intake. Living in a college town, with Bentley’s, C-stone, and of course TT it is difficult to stay in. But, just minimize going out ALL THE TIME. Maybe skip “Loose Tuesdays” or don’t bring money when you go out so you won’t order yourself six rounds…when you really do not need them. You’ll also save a lot of money this way.

Instead of scarfing down Chick-fil-A and McDonalds in Stamp try the Co-op in the basement. They have really great sandwich and breakfast options. My personal favorite is their bagels with hazelnut butter spread, bananas and granola… delicious and good for you. Just make small changes in what you eat. You don’t have to alter your entire diet. Studies have shown that minor changes show results too!

They say that a flat stomach happens in the kitchen, and that is partially true. But, the other part of it is working your core muscles in your stomach, thighs, and butt. We get a full work out just walking to class, since Maryland is hill after hill, but if you incorporate these stomach work outs into your daily routine (only ten to twelve minutes of your time) you’ll get rid of that beer gut in no time!

And lastly and most importantly… Love your body! Everyone is shaped differently in their own unique and beautiful way.
