Sundays are by far the most important day of the week for me.  Sundays are a time for debriefs, cleaning, and completely resetting my life.  After a very hectic week, and an even more hectic weekend, it is important to reset your life to prepare for the upcoming week.

I always start my Sunday by doing a debrief about events that took place over the weekend.  I always do this first, because it allows me to talk about the weekend and things that happened, allowing me to leave it behind on the weekend.  I do not carry the events of the weekend into my next week.  Whatever happens, I leave it behind and I don’t worry about it.

Next, I work out.  I normally have practice on Sundays or a basketball game so that counts as my workout.  If I don’t have either, I will bring myself to the gym and do at least an hour-long workout.  This will make me feel better because I allow myself to reset my body and feel better about whatever I ate over the weekend.

On Sundays, I always do laundry.  I wash my clothes and towels, and sometimes my sheets depending on the week.  I will try to wash my towels and my clothes at once, using two different washers so I can get it out of the way and I can set one alarm to do laundry.  By doing laundry, I wash all of my dirty clothes from the previous week.  This also resets my laundry basket: my clothes won’t overflow the week after because I empty it.  After I do laundry, I make sure to put it away as soon as I take it out.  I don’t love folding laundry, but I know if I don’t do it right away, my clothes will wrinkle, and I will never end up putting them away.

I also do a total reset with cleaning my room and the bathroom in my dorm.  I dust all surfaces in my room.  I wipe my desks, dresser fridge, and microwave down with Clorox wipes.  I also vacuum and mop the floor of my room.  I then move on to the bathroom and do a deep scrub of everything.  I scrub all surfaces and vacuum and mop the floor.  Cleaning is one of my least favorite, but favorite things to do.  I hate how routine it is, but if you don’t clean every week, then things get so disgusting.  I also love cleaning because it can be very calming, especially if I have a bad week.  For me, cleaning is a love/hate relationship, but after I finish cleaning, I feel so successful.

On my Sunday reset, I pick my outfits for every day during the week.  Since I student teach, I don’t have a lot of time in the morning during the week to get ready.  By picking out my outfits for the week, I prepare myself for success.  I already have my outfits picked out so I have one less thing to think about in the morning.

On Sunday night, I allow for “me time.”  I will light a candle, do face masks, take extra time in the shower to relax, etc.  I always take time for myself to do something I enjoy.  I make Sunday nights a time for myself to relax and practice self-care.  I also go through all of my notifications on my phone, especially any missed emails.  Sundays are a total reset for my phone too so it can keep up with all of my notifications for the next week.

I love Sundays because I can practice self-care.  I can take care of myself and get my life back on track.  Nothing compares to taking care of yourself and it is so important to have a Sunday reset because it benefits your mental health.  I love to reset my life because I feel like I can accomplish much more in the next week.  If you currently don’t reset your life on Sundays, I highly suggest Sundays be your reset day.  You can get all the chores done in one day and feel like a clean slate to start the next week.

Manhattan '24

Hi I'm Emily! I am in my Senior Year at Manhattan College, graduating in Spring 2024. I am studying Childhood Special Education with an upward extension to middle school with a double major in English. My goal in life is to teach elementary school and later on, teach middle school. Although I don't have a position in my Her Campus chapter, I am still an active writer for Her Campus! I write about all different topics for Her Campus, anything that interests me or that I believe other girls will find useful and informational. I am a team captain on the Manhattan College cheerleading team, so I may write about that sometimes. I also love sorority rush season so I have written about my sorority a few times. I believe that Her Campus is an amazing source for women to put their work out there and influence other girls. I love being a part of this organization and being able to write about whatever I love. This is the best outlet for me to learn more about my writing style, experiment with different topics that I would not be allowed to write about in a class, and grow as a writer.
