Yoga is a beautiful practice that promotes relaxation through stretching the body in various positions. While many people want the benefits of yoga, some are apprehensive about taking on the practice. They may find it hard to set the time aside, have trouble focusing or, like me, struggle with the flexibility aspect. Considering these reasons, I have found Aerial Yoga to be the perfect solution! Here are some of the reasons why Aerial Yoga may be the best form of yoga for you:

Beginner Friendly

You don’t need any previous experience of Aerial Yoga or any yoga at all! The instructors know that this can be a tricky practice, so they are very helpful in guiding you to find your balance. Sign up for a beginner class, show up with a determined mindset, and get ready to swing into some fun.

Relieves Compression of the Spine

Aerial yoga offers numerous anti-gravity poses that do wonders for your spine. It eases tension and lets your spine completely relax, as well as giving it the deep stretch it so desperately needs. If you have back pain regularly, practicing aerial yoga as little as once a week can help reduce your pain!

Improves Balance

Spending time perfecting the silks can be a little wobbly at first, but it is easy to learn. Surprisingly, going against gravity can actually improve your overall balance.

Improves Flexibility

Aerial Yoga is a class that is self-monitored, which allows people of any flexibility level to participate. Class is a judgement free zone and your instructor will advise you to listen to your body. If your body is telling you no, maybe today is not the day to try that pose. However, with time and continued practice, the poses will become easier as you continue to grow.

You Leave the Studio Taller!

The anti-gravity aspect of Aerial Yoga helps your spine decompress and as you relax upside down, your body stretches out! It is said that after class, you could leave the studio up to 2 inches taller!

Build Core and Arm Strength

The hammock supports you, but as you engage in the practice, you lift, twist and lower yourself constantly, which will definitely leave you sore the next day!

You Not Only Leave Taller, but Happier too!

While hanging upside down is fun on its own, your body releases hormones that make you happy such as dopamine, endorphins, oxytocin and serotonin. These “feel good” hormones will leave you smiling and content after every class.

Ditch the mat and go hang at your nearest Aerial Yoga studio! Some studios in the NYC area are listed below:
