Coffee and Clothes: How to Start Your Day Off Right

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUC chapter.

Just like any other habit, a morning routine is only successful if you consistently implement it into your day. A way to make it easier is to fill it with things that you will make you want to get out of bed.

PLAN THE THINGS

The first part of any productive morning routine is to plan ahead. This includes getting your outfit ready from the night before and planning your to dos in your planner of your choice (https://www.hercampus.com/school/luc/planning-your-way-sensational-semester). However, if you are like me and like to do this in the morning as a way to get started then just make sure that you wake up and give yourself sufficient time.

DRINK THE COFFEE, THEN DO THE THINGS

The next step that many of us do, but don’t think about it this way, is to give yourself a treat. This means getting your coffee, tea, lemon water or whatever it is that gets you supercharged and ready to head out the door. Some people may even do this before planning.  For Annie Raglow, second-year, “The first thing on my mind the second I wake up is coffee. I absolutely love caffeine and feel like I need it to get my day started,” she said.

After planning for the day and giving yourself a treat, it’s time to actually get the day started. A small task that you can easily check off your to-do list is making your bed. “I always try to make my bed before leaving— something about that one simple task makes me feel like I have my life together. Then I grab my coffee and head out!”- Annie Raglow, third year. Gabriela Galiano, first year, likes making her bed so she “ can lay [her] clothes out”

The day has been planned, the coffee and the bed has been made…. Now what?

Well, I don’t know about you, but looking presentable always puts me in a better mood. However, presentable for everyone is different! Presentable for Mara Dal Pra means first and foremost using Thayers Witch Hazel after washing her face. “It wakes me up”, says Dal Pra, first-year.

For me, it’s all about being comfortable. Some days that means makeup and some days that means hair in a bun and no makeup but chapstick. For others, it may mean sweatpants or even pajamas. Personally, I am not sweatpants kind of girl but the point is, your morning routine should be about you, how you are feeling and your intentions of the day.

Hope your mornings will continue to be productive and your days filled with lots of things you can be thankful for!
