“Even in the chaos of everyday life, moments of gratitude remind us to hold on to the good things” – Brit Morin

Journaling is a hobby that has been around for so long, and I noticed it has become increasingly popular over the past couple of years. There are so many methods and reasons for journaling that it is something anyone can do. For example, bullet journaling, writing your thoughts, keeping note of certain things, etcetera. So, as fun as journaling can be, I have been one of those people who are really into it after getting inspired by social media, then, I fall off in the next week. So, sure, the time it takes to journal can be as long or short as one wants it to be – but there have been times when it started to feel like a chore, or I wouldn’t have the time, and I would stop the hobby altogether.

I still liked the idea of journaling, but, I could not figure out how to make it simple and more enjoyable for myself. Then one day, as I was scrolling through one of the many forms of social media I use – I stumbled upon The Five Minute Journal made by Intelligent Change. This journal already looks aesthetic on the outside and inside, and its format is effective. The journal is meant to be used daily, but you don’t have to which makes it more manageable. In the beginning, the pages walk you through the book’s purpose and how to use it. Then the following pages are where you journal: every page has an inspirational quote, and every few pages have a weekly challenge. You’re meant to write in the journal once you wake up to start your day on a good note, then, it prompts you to write three things you are grateful for, three things that would make your day great, and a daily affirmation. Then, before you go to bed, you write three highlights of your day and something you learned that day to end on a good note.

The process is so simple and rewarding because when you write with intention, it truly does brighten your day and helps you to highlight the good moments of your everyday life. I have been using this journal since this summer, and I have enjoyed every bit of it. I haven’t consistently used it every day since coming back to campus but, anytime I do use it, I am instantly in a good mood, and I feel so inspired. I recommend this journal to anyone who is looking for a way to get into journaling, reflect, and implement more gratitude into their life.
