I Tried Nike Training Club for 30 Days

January is the month when everyone hits the gym to crush their New Year’s resolutions. This year I have a feeling that more people are struggling to find motivation to workout when they are still trying to socially distance. I’ve dealt with this same lack of motivation. Thus, in December I was searching for a new workout and rediscovered the Nike Training Club (NTC) app. Nike has now made all of its premium content available for free due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With endless amounts of programs and workouts available at my fingertips I began a 28 day program that I completed throughout the month of January. Here are my thoughts and suggestions from my experience if you want to try NTC for yourself.

Be Realistic

Nike Training Club ranks each workout and program as beginner, intermediate and advanced. Depending on your experience and recent activity choose the level that seems most appropriate. If you begin a program it is also important to take into consideration how often you will realistically workout.

The program that I began in January was the “Breakthrough Challenge”. This intermediate program was broken down into 4 stages with 5 workouts that range from 30-45 minutes. Each stage was designed to be completed within one week. I also took into consideration that I don’t have a full gym in my home so this program that only requires dumbbells and mat was perfect for me.

Find Workouts You Enjoy

Nike Training Club offers a range of different workouts that target specific muscle groups, workout focus, and equipment. Whether you are looking to strengthen your abs and core, arms and shoulders, or glutes and legs there are specific exercises that target your desired muscle group. You can also more broadly focus on endurance, mobility, strength, or yoga and narrow down your workout choices depending on if you have no, basic, or full equipment available to you.

If running is more appealing to you, then you can also download the Nike Running Club (NRC) app that gives you guided and timed runs for indoor and outdoor.

Through my 30 days I found myself dreading the HIIT workouts. I personally enjoyed the strength workouts that used basic dumbbells and a mat. Therefore, I supplemented and focused more heavily on the strength exercises. Exercise should be fun and you shouldn’t feel guilty adjusting your workouts to make them more fun.

Use the Whole App

Not only does Nike Training Club offer workouts but there are also articles, recipes, and suggestions from their expert training team. Use these free resources to take your fitness journey to a more holistic level. Especially pay attention to the reading materials and recipes specific to the programs that align with the workouts for that week.

Hold Yourself Accountable

Obviously life happens. It is ok to not have a perfect workout or to miss a workout. However, Nike Training Club makes it easy to hold yourself accountable to just show up to the workout. Turning on the NTC notifications gives you subtle reminders to get a workout in before the end of the day.

Finishing a workout program in the goal time gave me great satisfaction at the end of January. I felt motivated to keep up with exercise. Not only did I physically feel good but I also felt mentally amazing.

Being back in school, exercise is essential for mental and physical health. I cannot encourage you more to go download the NTC app and try it out for yourself. Even if you get quarantined in a dorm room, the NTC app has workouts you can easily complete in 10 minutes or more.
