Her Campus Beauty and Self-care Event on Campus!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lafayette chapter.

Let’s be honest, as women we all know or have been exposed to the cosmetic industry in some way or another. Shampoos, hair product, essential oils, makeup, makeup applicators-you name it-are all products that fall into this field. These luxuries promise us ~silky~ smooth hair and glowing, soft skin, but are we thinking about the possible long-term drawbacks? Are there any consequences that affect us and others directly? What about the indirect repercussions, on perhaps the environment, health, and society?

On April 1st (not a joke), Lafayette’s Her Campus will be co-sponsoring an event of the importance of consumer awareness and health in the most fabulous form, cosmetics! Central to the event is the important role that beauty and self-care plays in many of our lives. Without proper knowledge and advocacy, many of us can fall subject to the tragedies of the beauty industry. This is what our keynote speaker, Vanessa Ungvarsky, a game-changing entrepreneur,  will address in her interactive talk with us.

These broader questions are not often addressed when we are making choices about products to benefit in the short term, but all the more important to ask ourselves when choosing a particular brand or product.

Vanessa Ungvarsky is going to address these questions and the importance of women leadership in this particular issue. Vanessa is the owner and founder of Taylor Made Polish, a beauty studio in Easton that specializes in working with its customers to design products that are both sourced sustainably and taylored to the customer. Seriously, you make the products–talk about self-empowerment!
