5 Things Dual Majors/Degree Students Struggle With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

1. We have two grids/schedules to maintain. That scary grid that terrifies freshman and becomes your whole life throughout your education, imagine having two. It is twice the amount of classes and time. Hopefully some of your classes will substitute in for others but the class load becomes a big struggle to carry on our shoulders.

2. With the huge class load, we never have winter/summer breaks. There no such things as breaks, if classes are offered during the break, dual majors are bound to sign up for at least one or two. During the summer I am usually enrolled in at least three classes; my goal is to graduate in five years with two bachelor degrees in education (I know, I am crazy).

3. Books/Supplies, Ha. This physically pains me. As the new semester starts so does the doubting fear of amount debt I will further myself into. Not only do I need to buy art supplies but an ungodly amount of textbooks/novels. At this point, I think my paycheck should get directly forwarded to the on campus bookstore.

4. I don’t know if this applies to all dual majors, but it probably is very common amongst them: crazy organization of everything school related. The very first article I published with Her Campus was about how organized and color coded my planner is; without my planner I would fail at college. Along with that I created my own timeline/grid for all of the classes that I need to take. I plan two semesters ahead, and enroll in my desired classes the exact moment I am allowed to; if I am unable to enroll in my desired classes, I will most likely be recreating my timeline and my whole life.

5. Advisement time. I have three advisors that I have to meet with every single semester when that time rolls around. I have one for art education, one for social studies, and one for secondary education. This becomes a huge pain in the ass trying to fit meetings in between my already hectic class and work schedule.
