Quarantine can be tough, so how about we make it go a little faster? When I had to return to university this year, a 14-day quarantine period was mandatory. Although it seemed daunting at first, I was able to find my way around it eventually. I learned the key to surviving quarantine is figuring out how to pass the time efficiently. So, here are five things you can do to ensure that you don’t lose your mind during quarantine.

Stick to a routine

I’m sure you must’ve heard this a thousand times but hear me out. I’m not saying that you need an elaborate routine with a ten-step skincare routine followed by an hour of working out; instead, ensure you wake up at the same time every day even if you’re exhausted from the previous day. Even if you’re a night owl like me, it is best to ensure that you sleep around the same time every night. This way, you’ll feel each day start and end and you won’t feel like you’re in an endless loop.

Call your friends

What are friends for if you can’t annoy them? Also, if you like a little competition, mobile apps such as Plato, Houseparty, Psych and Out of the Loop will keep you and your friends entertained and occupied for hours.

Watch long shows

Avoid sitcoms, and instead, watch shows that have episodes that run for at least 40 minutes each. If you’re not a fan of TV shows, it helps to watch movie series. Time passes by quickly when you watch movies or shows that feel like they go on forever. Here are a few recommendations: Sherlock (TV Series), This Is Us (TV Series), The Bold Type (TV Series) and movies from the DC Universe or Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Try ‘Just Dance’

If you are not a fan of workouts like me, it is time to start playing Just Dance. After being a sloth the entire day, playing Just Dance helps you feel active and gives you the much-needed serotonin boost.

Focus on self-care

You need something to look forward to and listening to a brand-new playlist every single day helps with this. You never know when you might find your new favourite artist or song. Also, while listening to the playlist, practice some skincare or hair-care techniques because then, you can emerge from quarantine looking better than ever!

The five ways mentioned above ensure that you get your alone time while also letting you socialise a little so that your life feels somewhat normal again. So, although it may seem a little hard at first, trust me, you will be able to get through it!
